井戸の建築が今週始まりました。写真は、水源にある古井戸の泥を取り除いて再生しているところです。水はここからポンプで引き上げられ、２００ｍの道のりを経て我が家に到着します。実は当初は私たちの土地内で井戸を掘る計画でしたが、１５０ｍの掘削をしても十分な水を得ることができませんでした。この問題に地元の有志の方々が知恵をしぼり十何年も放置されていた古井戸を再生することを提案してくださり、また土地の保有者の方にも快諾していただきました。皆様のサポートなしにここまで来ることは不可能でした。

Well construction started this week, and the main well is being prepared so we will be able to pump water up to our house. Actually the well is being built on top of a spring water source, and then will have to be pumped 200 meters to our house. We were not able to get water on our land, but the local community is supporting us and the neighbor has offered to let us hook into an unused well. We would be in big trouble without his support!

 

我が家の給水システムを簡単に説明すると、まず写真のコンクリート槽へ水が溜まります。ここで泥は下に溜まり溢れた水が貯水槽へ溜まります。ここからポンプアップされて中間槽まで引き上げられ、さらに家の横にある貯水槽へと引き上げられます。最初の貯水槽から一番上の貯水槽までは２００ｍあり、高低差は６５ｍになります。３つの貯水槽がそれぞれ常時貯水することができるので、渇水時でも数日分の水は蓄えておけます。保有者によると渇水期でも最長1日あれば再び貯水槽に溜まり始めるということです。十分な給水が見込めるとはいえ、やはり水は森の恵みであることを自覚して節水には心がける必要があります。

Basically the water fill up in the above cistern and then once full the water flows out of the top to allow any sediment to settle at the bottom and the clean water goes to another tank with a pump which pumps the water up to a mid-station tank about 100 meters away. This mid-station also has a pump which pushes the water up to another tank at our house. There will be 200 meters of pipe, which has to bring the water up a height of 65 feet from the well to our house.

We will be able to store over 1,000L of water throughout the entire system, so in the event of a dry period we will still have plenty of water to allow the spring and well to recover. The owner said it sometimes goes dry, but usually never for more than a day. It hasn't rained in weeks and this is a very dry period, but the well was filling up quite quickly so we are confident to be able to live up here though have to conserve water as it is still a limited resource.

 

キッチンもだいぶ形になってきました。

こちらのキッチンは自分たちでアメリカで購入し（ヒッコリーキャビネットとコリアントップです）、日本へ空輸しました。細かいことに関してはメインユーザーとなるちかの希望に合わせてもらいました。一番のこだわりは、夢であったアメリカンサイズのビルトインガスオーブン式5口コンロ！！宝物です。ベーグルがいっぺんに何個焼けるだろう。。。

The kitchen is nearly finished with just a little more plumbing work to be completed. The kitchen was imported from the states and has hickory wood cabinets with a Corian countertop and seamless integrated acryllic 2-basin sink. Chika's dream kitchen! Also an American gas stove with oven for baking lots of yummy treats.

二階はこんな感じです。夜景もきれいですよ。中にソファを置き、外にはハンモックを下げますのでゲストの方にはコーヒー片手に本でも読みながらゆっくりしてほしいです。

A view of the 2nd floor hall and balcony which has an absolutely amazing view. We'll put a comfy sofa in the hall for reading, and a nice hammack outside as well.

 

1階のリビングです。秋には紅葉も見れます。窓の間に麓の鉄工所で作って頂いた薪ストーブを設置します。冬にはこれが主な暖房となります。ダイニングテーブルは目下作成中で、ひのきで作ってます。

1F living room and dining area. There will be a locally made wood stove installed between the two deck doors which will heat the entire house in winter. We are currently making a table from Hinoki (Japanese Cyprus) to serve as the main dining table. 

 

薪割りが急務です。今日ちょっとだけしました。まーだこんなの100分の１以下です。暖かい冬が過ごせそうです。

Did a little firewood chopping today. We still have a ton more wood that needs to be cut, chopped, and stacked, but we'll have a good supply when it comes time to move in February.
