皆さんいかがお過ごしでしょうか。2月は早いですね。

ゆっくり写真を撮りながらも、撮るものについて考える時間を多く取っています。インスタに載せるところから始まった活動なので、今まではじっくり考えることが少なかったことを思い知らされます。難しい。

2月は知り合いに写真活動についてインタービューをしてもらいました。他の人によってまとめられたものを読むのはとても興味深く、人に自分の考えを伝えるとても良い予行練習になりました。もしよければ、ご一読ください。

彼女が”OFFPEAK”な街を撮る理由

offpeaktokyoってどういう意味なのかを説明しているのですが、offpeak って「閑散期」という意味があって、観光的ではない東京を撮るという意味合いの名前を知り合いからもらいました。

自分の撮るものについて、「閑散」だけでは形容詞がたいものがあるように感じ始め、色々表現を模索しています。「日本的」、「土着」、「日常」、、

またこの複合的なテーマについて更に考えさせられた展示に最近行きました：

我楽他宗 —— 民藝とモダンデザイナーの集まり

私の大学の時から大変お世話になっている恩師のキュレーションによる展示です。（少し宣伝）

内容としては、大正〜昭和初期にかけて活動していた芸術・趣味集団「我楽多宗」による発行物や交流会を通したアートを展示しています。この「我楽多宗」の構成員は芸術家もいれば、公務員や外交官からのいわゆる一般的な職についている人により構成され、「平凡性」という考えを追求します。平凡なものの中の美しさや、身近なものへの愛着、平凡なものからなる平等性、などについて意見交換や作ったものの共有が行われていたようです。

「我楽多宗」は少し変わった例ですが、私が写真を撮る上での考えの足しになった気がしています。単純に非観光的な光景を撮っているわけではなく、私が魅せられるのは土着した文化や行動の軌跡なのかもしれないと、はじめて思いました。

私にとって、フォトジェニー、構図や芸術性はその着眼点や仮設を人に伝える上で必要なツールに過ぎないのです。

しかし、こういった作品作りについて話し合う友達が本当に欲しいですね...

展示には当時「我楽多宗」が刊行していた冊子などもあり、とてもインスピレーションを受けました。4月には印刷を開始できるように、今月は頑張って写真を撮ったり文章を書いたりしたいですね。

How is everyone doing, February came and went.

I've been taking my time to take pictures, but also spending a lot of time thinking about what I'm shooting. I'm reminded of how little time I've spent thinking about what I'm taking pictures of, since this activity started with putting them on Instagram. It's hard.

In February, I had someone I know do an interview about my photography activities. It was very interesting to read something that was put together by someone else, and it was a very good rehearsal for communicating my thoughts to others. If you would like to read it, please do so.

Why she photographs "OFFPEAK" cities

I'm explaining what offpeaktokyo means. offpeak means "off-season," and I got the name from an acquaintance of mine because I wanted to shoot a less touristy Tokyo.

I've started to feel that "quiet" is not a good enough adjective to describe what I shoot, and I've been searching for different ways to describe it. I've been searching for various ways to describe my work, such as "Japanese," "indigenous," and "everyday.

I recently visited an exhibition that made me think more about this complex theme.

Gagaku Taishu -- A group of folk art and modern designers

The exhibition was curated by my professor, who has been a great help to me since my university days. (A little shout out)

The content of the exhibition is art through the publications and exchange meetings of the "Garakutashu", an art and hobby group that was active from the Taisho era to the early Showa era. The members of the group, some of whom were artists and some of whom were civil servants and diplomats, pursued the idea of "mediocrity". It seems that they exchanged opinions and shared their creations about the beauty in the mundane, the attachment to the familiar, and the equality that comes from the mundane.

The "Garakutashu" is a bit of an unusual example, but I think it added to my thoughts on photography. For the first time, I realized that I am not simply photographing non-touristic scenes, but that what fascinates me may be the trajectory of rooted culture and behavior.

For me, photogenic, composition and aesthetic are just necessary tools to convey the point of view and the hypothetical to others.

However, I would really like to have friends to discuss this kind of art making...
