盲目の詩人・シンは、
「世界を見たい」という願いに取り憑かれながら生きている。
シンは目が見えない。
それでも彼は、
幻覚の中でだけ訪れる光を、本当の“視界”だと信じるようになっていく。

一方、ロックバンドのボーカル・アラタは、
人生の意味を見失い、半年間ホームレスとして街を彷徨っていた。
人の視線の中にいながら、誰からも見られていない感覚。
存在しているのに、存在していないような日々。

ある夜。
高速道路のトンネルで、アラタは倒れているシンを見つける。

言葉を交わすうちに、二人はかつて短い時間だけ出会っていたことを思い出す。
しかしその時、互いのことを理解することはできなかった。

再会した二人は、
それぞれが抱えてきた“欠け”を、相手の中に見つけていく。

シンは、
目で見ることよりも先に、「理解される」という体験に触れる。

アラタは、
何も持たないはずのシンが、
必死に世界を求める姿を通して、
生きたいという感情を取り戻していく。

監督/脚本　Shei Porter

高校時代、イタリアのシチリア島へ留学。
言葉も文化も通じない環境で過ごす中で、
「人は、どこまで他者を理解できるのか」という問いを強く意識するようになる。

現地で初めて短編映画を制作。
セリフや物語よりも、
視線・距離・沈黙・空気感を重視した映像表現を探求し始める。

Shei Porter の作品は一貫して、
「何が起きているか」よりも、
人がどう感じ、どう見てしまうのかを描く。

留学時に芽生えたこの問いを、
より深く、より個人的なレベルまで掘り下げた作品であり、

SEEING is a 70-minute feature film that asks what it really means to see.

■ About the Film “SEEING”

Shin is a blind poet, living under an obsession with one wish: to see the world.

He cannot see. Yet he begins to believe that the flashes of light he encounters in

hallucinations are his true vision.

On the other hand, Arata, the vocalist of a rock band, has lost all sense of purpose in life.

For six months, he wanders the city as a homeless man. Surrounded by people’s eyes, yet

never truly seen. Existing, and at the same time, feeling as if he does not exist at all.

One night, inside a highway tunnel, Arata finds Shin collapsed on the ground. As they begin

to talk, they realize they once crossed paths briefly in the past. But at that time, they were

unable to understand each other. Reunited, the two men begin to recognize the missing

parts of themselves in one another.

Shin encounters something that comes before sight: the experience of being understood.

Arata, through Shin who possesses nothing yet desperately reaches for the world,

rediscovers his desire to live.

This is the story of a man who cannot see. And at the same time, it is the story of those of us

who believe we can see.

What does it mean to see? Is it to perceive with our eyes, or to truly try to understand

another person? SEEING quietly places that question into the hands of the viewer.

■ Director Profile

Director / Screenwriter: Shei Porter

During high school, Shei Porter studied abroad on the island of Sicily, Italy. Living in an

environment where neither the language nor the culture was familiar, he became deeply

aware of a fundamental question:

How far can one truly understand another person?

While there, Shei created his first short film. Rather than prioritizing dialogue or plot, his work

began to explore visual expression that emphasizes gaze, distance, silence, and

atmosphere.

Across Shei Porter’s body of work, the focus is not on what happens, but on how people feel

and how they end up seeing the world.

SEEING is a film that takes the question born during those years abroad and pushes it

further, into a deeper and more personal territory.

It stands as a culmination of Shei Porter’s creative journey to date, and a natural extension

of his previous work.

■ Why We Are Making This Film

Today, judging others by appearances has become normal. Social media, videos, profiles,

photographs, first impressions. They are convenient, but they quietly ignore the most

essential part of being human.

This film is not about saying we should judge people by their inner selves. That kind of moral

message is not what we are after.

What this film seeks is simpler, and more uncomfortable. To realize that we ourselves

unconsciously judge others by how they look.

You may believe you truly see people. And then discover that you have not been seeing

them at all.

We wanted to turn that realization into a cinematic experience.

SEEING is not a film meant to correct others. It is a film meant to question oneself.

If you have ever misunderstood someone.

If you have ever been misunderstood by someone.

Then SEEING is a film made for you.

■ About the Visual Approach

SEEING is not a film designed to make the story easy to understand.

It is a film designed to make the audience experience a state of perception. Rather than

following conventional narrative cinema, the film adopts a more art-driven visual approach.

Director Shei Porter’s visual language focuses on:

● the instability of gaze

● the distance between people

● the boundary between light and shadow

● noise and grain as texture

● the color temperature of the night

Through these elements, the film translates the inner states of the characters directly to the

viewer.

After the film ends, what matters is not what you saw, but how you realized you had been

seeing.

All funds raised will be used solely for the essential production costs required to complete

SEEING as a finished film.

This is not a large-scale commercial production. Precisely because of that, every expense is

intentional and directly tied to the integrity of the work.

The funds will be allocated primarily to the following areas:

Rental of cameras, lenses, and essential gear required to achieve the film’s visual

language.

● Crew Compensation

Modest fees for the core crew involved in filming, sound, art, and editing.

● Location & Transportation Costs

Travel and environmental setup costs for shooting around highways and urban

locations.

● Soundtrack & Sound Design

Creation of original music and sound design that supports the film’s emotional and

sensory world.

Your support will be used only where it truly matters to bring SEEING to completion.

■ What This Crowdfunding Makes Possible

This film cannot be completed by one person alone. SEEING aims to gently shift the way

people perceive the world.

To do that, what we need is not only funding, but people willing to stay with this question.

After completion, SEEING will be submitted to film festivals, with the possibility of future

screenings in cinemas and curated screening programs.

At the same time, the full film will not be released for free on YouTube or social media. This

is because SEEING is not meant to be something you scroll past. It is a film meant to be

watched with intention.
