私は、ひろしまクリスマスマーケット実行委員会　委員長のBallin Stephan Philipp（バリン・ステファン・フィリップ）と申します。

ドイツから広島に住み既に17年になります。
広島市がドイツハノーバーと姉妹都市を結んでいる縁もあり、国際青年プログラム、コンサートプログラム、アートイベント等に携わってきました。その間、広島の皆さんにはとてもお世話になりました。感謝しております。

広島の皆さんとの交流を重ねるうちに、多くの支援やご協力もいただきました。
そこで私自身が何か広島の人に街に“恩返し”はできないものかと、思い立ったのがドイツのクリスマスマーケットでした。

私の住んでいた冬の風物詩としてクリスマスマーケットがあります。

と思いつき、3年準備期間得て（ここでも広島の多くのボランティアに支えられました）
非営利イベントとして2015年ひろしまクリスマスマーケット実行委員会を立ち上げました。

Hiroshima City has been a sister city of Hannover, Germany since 1983, and this year marks 40years of relations! We want to continue the [Hiroshima x Germany] Christmas Market Project, which was born out of mutual exchange! "We want to create a festive atmosphere for the Christmas season and offer people a fun experience" and "make it a new winter tradition in Hiroshima".

My name is Stephan Ballin, Chairperson of the Hiroshima Christmas Market Organising Committee.

I have lived in Hiroshima for 17 years already. Due to Hiroshima's sister city relationship with Hannover, Germany, I have been involved in international youth programmes, concert programmes and art events. During that time, the people of Hiroshima have been very kind to me. I am grateful to them.

As I continued to interact with the people of Hiroshima, I received a lot of support and cooperation. 
I wondered if I could do something to give something back to the people and the city of Hiroshima, and I came up with the idea of a Christmas market in Germany. 

Christmas markets in Germany are a favourite destination for national and international visitors to enjoy the traditional Christmas atmosphere. These markets offer a special experience of the Christmas season and an opportunity to celebrate local culture and traditions.

“This is how we can further develop the cultural exchange between Hiroshima and Germany and create a lively community.”

“This is how I can give back to the city of Hiroshima and the people of Hiroshima!”

The idea came to me, and after three years of preparation (again with the support of many

volunteers in Hiroshima), I set up the Hiroshima German Christmas Market Executive

Committee in 2015 as a non-profit event.

2015年の初めてのひろしまドイツクリスマスマーケット開始から少しづつではありますが規模も拡大し、多くの人にご来場をいただき、目指すべき目的に近づいてきていると思います。

ひろしまクリスマスマーケット実行委員会は非営利団体です。
マーケットの運営には主に企業の協賛金と出店店舗の収入の一部で成り立っています。

しかし、現在のこの状況下においては新規企業様の協賛金や、出店店舗へのご負担増は厳しい状況でもあります。
今までは貯えの資金がありましたので運営できましたが、コロナ禍2年の中止は影響も大きく、物価価格の高騰や人件費（運営上の警備・設営等）の高騰もあり、このままでは充分な活動ができません。

またクリスマスマーケットを継続していくためにも
新たな挑戦としてクラウドファンディングを選びました!!

2022年の来場者数が10,000人を超えたことで、ひろしまの街の…人の…期待をも感じています。
だからこそ、今年は入場ゲートやｽﾃｰｼﾞ周り、イルミネーションの充実等夢のある空間の設備に費用をかけたい!!

Since the first Hiroshima German Christmas Market was launched in 2015, the market has grown in size, albeit gradually, and many people have visited the market, which I believe is getting closer to the goal we should be aiming for.

The Hiroshima German Christmas Market Executive Committee is a non-profit-organisation.

The operation of the market is mainly funded by corporate sponsorship and a portion of the income of the stalls. However, under the current circumstances, it is difficult to obtain sponsorship from new companies and to increase the burden on the stalls. In addition, the soaring prices of commodities and the rising cost of labour (operational security, set-up, etc.) make it impossible to carry out sufficient activities at the current level.

We also chose crowdfunding as a new challenge to continue the Christmas Market!

With more than 10,000 visitors in 2022, we also feel the expectations of the city of Hiroshima... of the people!
