Global Art Festival ポートランド
We are so excited that you are able to join us on this exceptional journey around the world to taste, see, and hear from so many rich cultures. This week we are featuring the artwork of Kaoru Shibuta, an artist from Kyoto, Japan.
Date: Thursday, February 11 [5:30–8:30pm PST]
5:30pm – Cooking Class
Kicking off the evening’s events will be an exciting live streamed cooking class led by Chef Andrea Obana, who will be teaching us how to make Sushi Hand Rolls!
6:15pm – Artist Interview
2/12 11:30(日本時間)
We will then hear from Kaoru Shibuta in a live streamed artist interview, hosted by John Teply, Executive Director of the Elisabeth Jones Art Center. Kaoru will talk about his artworks and the mural collaboration project, and there will be time set aside for Q&A with viewers.

7:00pm – Virtual Gallery Tour
After the artist interview we will then “travel” to Shikoku, Japan to enjoy a very exciting live tour of the Kamikoya washi studio in Kochi. We will learn about the process of making washi, a traditional Japanese paper, and see some of the ways that it is used in art, design, and architecture.
7:30pm – Storytelling Performance
Next we will experience a live Japanese folktale storytelling performance by Alton Chung.

For the final event of the night, we will enjoy a live musical performance by Yumi Torimaru, creator of Kotori Japanese Music.
