自己紹介

初めまして！東京在住のマチと申します。日本に移住してから10年が経ちました。こちらで出会った友達や経験したことがたくさんあり、日本は私にとってまさにマイホームとなりました。現在は仕事と大学の研究を両立しながら、吹きガラス作家としても活動をしてます。

目的：このプロジェクトで実現したいこと

このプロジェクトの目的は溶解炉（窯）を購入するのことです。

プロジェクト立ち上げの背景

2024年2月に吹きガラスを始めてから、早くも3年が経ちます。きっかけは沖縄の琉球ガラスでした。東京の杉並区にある沖縄タウンというエリアに住んでおり、周りのお店で素敵な琉球ガラスがよく目に入ってきました。ある暇な日曜日に、家の近くにあるガラス工房で吹きガラス体験を予約し、参加しました。まるで恋に落ちるように、ガラスの魅力を感じ、同じ工房の教室に入会しました。格段に優れた素敵な先生とスタッフのおかげで、徐々に自分のスキルを磨き、多くの技術を学んできました。

残念ながら、2024年3月にその工房は終了する予定です。親切で優しい先生方からたくさんのことを学び、活動してきた先生も退職することになります。そこで、新たな挑戦として、自分の活動を続けるためにガラス工房を始めることを決意しました。ただし、都内で物件を借りるには、機械や道具などの高額な初期費用がかかります。自分の貯金を全部で物件借りて、前の工房の機械、道具などを購入でますが、溶解炉（窯）を購入と設置するためには400万が必要です。

現在の準備状況

嬉しいことで杉並区新高円寺で理想な物件を契約できました！溶解炉（窯）を除く他の機械や道具が今の工房のものを譲って頂けることになりまして、工房をオープンできるために溶解炉次第です！自分個人の工房だけでなく、作家さんと教室の生徒が使い続ける工房を作りたいと思います。「みんなの工房」。

リターンについて

支援していただく皆様に提供したいリターンは三つの種類があります。

① 完全に手作りのガラス作品：国内でのみ郵送いたします。※2025年1月より郵送予定です。

② 工房のグッズ：オリジナルブランドの商品。※国内でのみ郵送いたします。2024年10月より郵送予定です。

スケジュール

集めた支援金は溶解炉（釜）4月に購入し、６月に納品される予定です。

もちろん私もガラス作家の活動を続けたいと思っていますが、作家さん、生徒、スタッフ、そしてみんなのために早く工房を実現できると幸いです。支援していただける皆さんも、私たちの作品を手に取って感じていただいたり、工房でお会いできることも楽しみしてます。

A Glassblowing Studio for All

The goal of this fundraising is to buy a glass melting furnace (kiln).

Introduction:

Hello there! My name is Machi. I currently live in Tokyo, Japan. It has been 10 years since I moved here; I've made many friends and experienced many things, and I am proud to call Japan my home. Currently, I'm balancing my full-time job, finishing university, and becoming a professional-level glassblower.

Project Goal:

The objective of this project is to acquire the funds to buy a melting furnace for the glassblowing studio I am opening in July.

Background of the Project Launch:

My first inspiration to start glassblowing came from Okinawa's beautiful Ryukyu glass. I live in an area called Okinawa Town, so I often see Ryukyu glass in local shops. One fateful Sunday, I booked a glassblowing class at a nearby glassblowing studio and made my first glass piece with the help of the studio instructors. It was like falling in love at first sight. I decided then and there to join this studio as a student to learn how to blow glass. With the guidance of exceptional teachers and staff, I honed my skills and learned various techniques. Since I started glassblowing in February 2021, nearly three years have passed. 

Unfortunately, our studio is scheduled to close in March 2024. The kind teachers who are well into their seventies will be retiring. This is when I decided to take on a new challenge. I will start my own glass studio to provide a place for myself and the other students at the glassblowing studio to learn and grow. With the help of my instructors, I’ll be growing the glassblowing studio into a place for all. However, renting a property in Tokyo comes with high upfront costs. I will use all my savings to rent a studio space and buy some machinery, and tools from my previous workshop, but I need your help to fund the most critical part of the studio—the furnace where we melt hot glass. Without the furnace, we cannot blow glass. It costs 4 million yen to purchase and install this piece of equipment.

Current Status:

I found an ideal property in Shin-Koenji in Suginami. It is conveniently located a short distance from the Marunouchi line from Shinjuku. I am in the process of renting this space. Additionally, I will buy various machinery and tools for crafting and shaping glass, from our studio that is closing down. However, the opening of the new studio depends on getting the melting furnace! I aim to create a studio for my use and as a place for artists and students to create – "A glassblowing studio for all."

Rewards for Backers: If you back this project, there are three types of rewards:

1. Handmade glass art (domestic shipping only): One-of-a-kind beautiful glass art produced by me. Plans to start shipping in January 2025.

2. Studio goods (domestic shipping only): Products with our new studio’s logo and art. Plans to start shipping in September 2024.

Project Schedule:

The funds collected will be used to purchase the furnace in April, with delivery expected in June.

I am excited to take this next step in my journey as a glass artist and create a studio for the benefit of fellow artists, students, and everyone who supports us. Most glassblowing studios are outside of Tokyo in the countryside, so this is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to support a unique space in the heart of Tokyo.  I am grateful for the opportunity to share our creations with you and meet you at the studio.
