はじめまして！私たちは、京都で「和楽器をもっと面白く！」をテーマに活動している、エンタメプロジェクト「絃（げん）」です。

私たちが「絃」を始めた理由

私たちの活動の原点には、二つのシンプルな想いがあります。

一つは、「和楽器で、ただ楽しいことをやっていきたいよね」という気持ち。難しく考えずに、やってみたいことを素直にカタチにしていく――そんなワクワクから始まりました。

もう一つは、「頑張っている和楽器奏者が、ちゃんと続けていける場所をつくりたい」という想い。好きな音楽を、無理なく続けられる環境があったらいいな、という気持ちです。

そんな想いから、私たちの挑戦は始まりました。

「絃」の活動拠点とコンサートのかたち

私たちの挑戦は、二つの場所から始まりました。

私たち「絃（げん）」は、京都を拠点に、和楽器のコンサートや箏の体験プログラムなどを行っているエンタメプロジェクトです。和楽器をもっと自由に、もっと身近に感じてもらえるように、日々さまざまな場づくりに挑戦しています。

そんな私たちの活動は、ふたつのユニークな場所から始まりました。

築70年の古民家が、最初のステージに

ひとつは、築70年の古民家を改装した「絃 故郷 西院」。まるで実家に帰ってきたような安心感のあるこの家が、私たちの最初のステージです。ここでは、箏や三味線のソロ演奏をじっくりと味わっていただける距離感で、演奏家とお客様が直接つながる特別な時間を創っています。

銭湯でライブ！？ 音が響く、ちょっと不思議なコンサート

そしてもう一つが、2024年12月から始まった、銭湯を舞台にした「絃 湯響 九条湯」。

「絃 湯響 九条湯」の入り口「銭湯で和楽器？」とよく驚かれますが、お湯は出ていないタイル張りの空間は、音の響きがとてもユニーク。箏や三味線の音がふわりと広がり、不思議なくらい心地よい音場になります。
意外な組み合わせかもしれませんが、実際に聴いてみるとすごくしっくりくるんです。

ここでは、箏と三味線や尺八、大正琴などの和楽器、そしてフルート、ギターなどの洋楽器とコラボレーションする、少し実験的なデュエットコンサートをお届けしています。

ジャンルや楽器の枠を超えた、新しい音楽の楽しみ方を提案しています。

お客様との出会いが、すべてのはじまり

最初は、築70年の古民家「絃 故郷 西院」を舞台に、小さなコンサートを手探りで始めました。お客様が1人しかいないことも何度もありましたが、それでも目の前に来てくださった方のために、毎回、全力で演奏してきました。

実は、今回の1周年記念コンサートを開催するきっかけも、お客様からのひとことでした。2025年5月21日――この活動を始めてちょうど1年を迎えた頃、近くの公演に来てくださったお客様に「1周年なんです」とお話ししたところ、「じゃあ記念のコンサートはしないの？」と声をかけていただいたんです。その言葉に背中を押されて、「よし、やってみよう」と決めました。

とはいえ、正直わからないことだらけで、不安もたくさんありました。でも、周りの方々が本当にたくさん支えてくださって、少しずつ準備を重ねて、ようやく開催にこぎつけることができました。

そして今回、ライブ配信をすることにしたのも、これまで現地で私たちの公演を観てくださった世界中のお客様の存在があったからです。日本に旅行で来た時にコンサートに足を運んでくれた方々に、距離を越えてまた音楽を届けたい──そんな想いで、配信という形にも挑戦しています。

何より嬉しい言葉

これまでに海外のお客様から、たくさんの感想をいただきました。「この旅で一番の思い出になったよ」――そんな言葉をもらうたびに、涙が出そうになります。

うれしくて、この活動はやっぱりやめられないなと。和楽器には、言葉や文化の壁をこえて、人の心に届く力がある。それを教えてくれたのは、出会ってきたお客様たちでした。

だからこそ、もっともっと、たくさんの人に届けたいと思っています。

1周年の感謝を込めて、私たち史上最大の挑戦へ

今年5月、「絃」は活動開始から1周年を迎えました。
その感謝の気持ちをかたちにしたくて、今回、私たちは初めて「ホール」という舞台に挑戦します。

規模としては決して大きな会場ではありませんが、今の私たちにとってはこれまでで一番大きな挑戦です。しかも今回は、これまで「絃」の活動を一緒に盛り上げてくれた仲間たち、そして心から尊敬する演奏家たちが、この日のために集まってくれます。

箏、三味線、尺八、大正琴といった和楽器に加えて、フルート、キーボード、ギター、ドラムまで――ジャンルを超えた楽器たちが一堂に会し、ホールいっぱいに"新しい日本の音"を響かせます。

この公演を成功させて、次はもっと大きなステージへ。そして近い将来、私たちの音楽を海外でも届けたいと考えています。その第一歩となるような、特別な1日です。

そしてコンサートの最後には、この日のためだけに作られた新曲を、世界で初めてお届けします。曲名はまだ決まっていません。でも、編成はすでに決まっています。箏、三味線、尺八、大正琴、フルート、ドラム、ギター、キーボード──和と洋を越えたこの編成での生演奏は、滅多に実現できない、まさに奇跡のような組み合わせです。

この曲を、この編成で演奏するのは、きっと今回が最初で最後。一度きりかもしれない、特別な瞬間を、ぜひあなたの目と耳で体験していただきたいと思っています。

Introduction

Hello! We are "Gen," an entertainment project based in Kyoto, working under the theme "Making Japanese traditional instruments more exciting!"

Why We Started "Gen"

Our activities are rooted in two simple feelings.

One is the desire to "just do fun things with Japanese traditional instruments." We wanted to give shape to what we wanted to try, without overthinking—that excitement was our starting point.

The other is the wish to "create a place where hardworking traditional instrument players can continue their craft." We thought it would be wonderful to have an environment where people could continue playing their favorite music without strain.

From these feelings, our challenge began.

"Gen's" Activity Bases and Concert Formats

Our challenge began from two unique locations.

"Gen" is an entertainment project based in Kyoto that holds Japanese traditional instrument concerts and koto experience programs. We challenge ourselves daily in various venue-making to make Japanese traditional instruments feel more free and accessible.

Our activities started from two unique places.

A 70-Year-Old Traditional House as Our First Stage

One is "Gen Furusato Nishiin," renovated from a 70-year-old traditional house. This house, which feels like coming home, became our first stage. Here, we create special moments where performers and audiences connect directly, allowing visitors to thoroughly enjoy solo performances of koto and shamisen in an intimate setting.

Live Music in a Bathhouse!? Concerts with Unique Acoustics

The other is "Gen Yukyo Kujou-yu," which started in December 2024, using a bathhouse as our stage. People are often surprised by "traditional instruments in a bathhouse?" but the tiled space without running water has very unique acoustics. The sounds of koto and shamisen spread gently, creating a mysteriously comfortable sound space. It might seem like an unexpected combination, but it actually fits perfectly when you hear it.

Here, we deliver slightly experimental duet concerts featuring collaborations between Japanese traditional instruments like koto, shamisen, shakuhachi, and taisho-koto, with Western instruments like flute and guitar.

We propose new ways to enjoy music that transcend genres and instrumental boundaries.

Customer Encounters - The Beginning of Everything

Initially, we started small concerts at the 70-year-old traditional house "Gen Furusato Nishiin" and the bathhouse venue, learning as we went. There were many times when only one customer came, but even then, we performed with all our heart for that person who came to see us. Each encounter and reaction became great support for us.

Actually, the catalyst for holding this 1st anniversary concert also came from a customer's comment. On May 21, 2025—around the time we reached exactly one year since starting this activity—when we mentioned to a customer who came to a nearby performance that "it's our first anniversary," they asked, "So aren't you having a commemorative concert?" Those words encouraged us, and we decided, "Alright, let's try it."

To be honest, there was so much we didn't know, and we had many anxieties. But so many people around us really supported us, and we gradually prepared step by step, finally managing to make it happen.

The reason we decided to do live streaming this time was also because of the presence of customers from around the world who had watched our performances in person. We wanted to deliver music again across distances to those who visited our concerts when they traveled to Japan—with this feeling, we're also challenging ourselves with streaming.

The Most Joyful Words

We've received many impressions from overseas customers. "This became the best memory of my trip"—every time we receive such words, we almost tear up.

It makes us so happy, and we realize we can't stop this activity. Japanese traditional instruments have the power to reach people's hearts beyond language and cultural barriers. The customers we've met taught us this.

That's why we want to reach even more people.

Our Biggest Challenge Yet - With Gratitude for Our First Anniversary

In May this year, "Gen" celebrated its first anniversary since starting activities. To give shape to our gratitude, we're challenging ourselves for the first time on a "hall" stage.

While it's not a large venue in scale, it's our biggest challenge yet. Moreover, this time, friends who have helped build up "Gen's" activities together, and performers we deeply respect, are gathering for this day.

In addition to Japanese traditional instruments like koto, shamisen, shakuhachi, and taisho-koto, we'll have flute, keyboard, guitar, and drums—instruments transcending genres will come together to fill the hall with "new Japanese sounds."

We want to make this performance a success and move on to even bigger stages next. And in the near future, we want to deliver our music overseas as well. This will be a special day that serves as the first step toward that goal.

This Day's Ensemble, This Day's Music

At the concert's finale, we will deliver a new song created just for this day—a world premiere. The title hasn't been decided yet, but the instrumentation is already set: koto, shamisen, shakuhachi, taisho-koto, plus flute, drums, guitar, and keyboard. A live performance with this ensemble that transcends Japanese and Western music is a truly miraculous combination that rarely comes together.

Performing this song with this ensemble will likely be the first and last time. We want you to experience this once-in-a-lifetime special moment with your own eyes and ears.
