こんにちは。NPO法人結び手の福岡洸太郎です。私たちは今、インド・ビハール州の貧困地域で【教育・自立・医療の複合拠点】を建設しています。この場所は、村の子どもたちと女性たちが自分たちの未来を自らの手で切り拓くための、永続的な希望の拠点となります。

To a Village Resilient to External Barriers: A “Bridge of Hope” Project Integrating Education × Self-Reliance × Healthcare

We are building an integrated hub for education, healthcare, and self-reliance in a rural village in Bihar, India. A place where children and women can shape their own futures with their own hands — and pass the baton of hope to the next generation.

Construction of an Integrated Education Hub in Bihar, India

Hello. My name is Kotaro Fukuoka, and I am a founder of “Musubi-Te Foundation”, a Japanese nonprofit organization. We are currently constructing an integrated center for education, empowerment, and healthcare in an impoverished region of Bihar, India. This center is expected to become a lasting foundation of hope — a place where children and women in the village can open up their own futures through their own strength.

なぜこのプロジェクトが必要なのか

ビハール州では、外部環境が原因で努力できない人がたくさんいます。貧困により学校に通えない子どもたち、教育機会のない女性たち、医療へのアクセスがない村人たち。彼らは努力不足ではなく、【機会がないだけ】なのです。私たちは、この不公正な状況を変えたいと考えています。

Why This Project Is Necessary

In Bihar, many people are unable to strive — not because they lack effort, but because of circumstances beyond their control. Children cannot attend school because of poverty, Women are denied access to education, Villagers have no access to basic healthcare… It is not a lack of effort. It is a lack of opportunity. We are determined to change this unjust reality.

複合拠点がもたらすもの

今回建設するこの拠点をつくることで、解決したい課題が大きく３つあります。

この拠点は単なる教室ではありません。5～12歳の子どもたちに基礎教育を提供し、被差別女性たちが安心してスキルを学べる就業訓練の場となり、リキシャー配備による医療アクセスを実現します。教育、自立、医療の3つの機能が統合された、地域全体を変える力を持っています。

What This Integrated Center Will Bring

By building this center, there are three major issues we aim to resolve.

This is not merely a school building. It will provide foundational education to children aged 5–12, serve as a safe vocational training space for marginalized women, and establish healthcare access through dedicated transportation support, including a medical rickshaw system. By integrating education, empowerment, and healthcare, this center has the power to transform the entire community.

▶︎拠点活用1: 教育が届かないことで起きる「負の連鎖」をとめる

Initiative 1: Stopping the “Cycle of Negativity” Caused by Lack of Access to Education

この地域の課題

インド・ビハール州は、国内でも特に経済水準が低い地域の一つです。インフラの遅れや産業の汚職により、多くの子どもたちが基礎教育を受けられないまま大人になります。大人になるまでに躾や倫理観の教育を受けることができず、正しい善悪の区別をつけることができず、自覚のないまま、知らず知らずのうちに悪い事に巻き込まれる場合や、最悪の場合には当事者となってしまう恐れもあります。犯罪や汚職、差別が当たり前の状態ではないと疑うためには最低限の理解力が必要ですが、それを身につけるための基礎教育が欠けています。

★この拠点で「正しく判断することを学ぶ機会」に

ここで学ぶ子どもたちは、社会の不条理を前にしても、自分の意見を明確に持ち、正しい判断ができる真の「自立した人間」へと成長するための教育を実施していきます。地域社会にはびこる汚職、詐欺、差別の連鎖を断ち切る担い手となり、加害者になることを拒み、被害者になることを知らない強さを持つ人材を育成します。そして、彼らが地域社会のリーダーや教育者、事業主となり、周囲の人々へ機会を提供し、自分たちが受けた善意のバトンを次世代へ繋ぐ存在として、自らの手で未来を切り拓いていくことを目指します。

The Challenge in This Region

Bihar is one of the economically poorest regions in India. Due to underdeveloped infrastructure and deep-rooted corruption, many children grow up without receiving even a basic education. Without foundational learning, they are deprived of the ability to distinguish right from wrong, to think critically, or to recognize injustice. In environments where crime, corruption, and discrimination become normalized, even questioning those systems requires a minimum level of literacy and critical understanding — something many children here are never given the chance to develop. Without education, children risk being drawn into harmful systems — sometimes unknowingly becoming victims, and in the worst cases, perpetrators.

Our Response: Creating an Opportunity to Learn to “Judge Correctly”

At this center, children will receive an education designed to help them become truly self-reliant and responsible individuals—capable of thinking independently, making ethical decisions, and standing firm in the face of injustice. We aim to nurture individuals who breaks the chains of corruption, fraud and discrimination that pervade their communities, who refuse to become perpetrators, and who possess the strength and resilience never to see themselves as victims. And we aim for them to become leaders, educators, and business owners in their communities—individuals who create opportunities for those around them, carry forward the goodwill once extended to them, and pass that baton on to the next generation, forging the future with their own hands.

結び手が提供するのは、単なる知識の詰め込みではありません 。社会の不条理を前にしても、正しい判断ができる「自立した人間」を育てるための「ライフスキル・モラル教育」に特化しています。その一環として、オリジナルのモラルストーリーを入れた「子ども新聞」を発行し、また独自のモラル教育カリキュラムを開発しています。

Achievements of Musubi-Te

What Musubi-Te provides is not mere cramming of knowledge. We specialize in life skills and moral education designed to nurture independent individuals who can make sound judgments even in the face of social injustice. As part of this effort, we publish a “Children’s Newspaper” featuring original moral stories, and we have also developed our own unique moral education curriculum.

Initiative 2: “Wings of Independence” — Empowering Women to Step Forward with Pride

この地域の課題

この地域の女性たちは、階層社会や伝統的な価値観の中で、教育の機会を奪われるだけでなく、家庭外で社会と繋がる機会を極めて限定されています。最悪な場合は生まれてすぐに実の親に命を奪われたり、売られてしまったりします。経済的な手段を持たないことは、彼女たちの発言力を奪い、依存を強め、尊厳ある生き方を困難にしています。彼女たちが自分自身の価値に気づき、家庭や地域を支える主体として自立するための「安心できる学び場」が不足しています。

★この拠点で「社会参加と自立の術」を

学校の放課後の時間やスペースを活用し、女性たちが安心してスキルを磨ける「職業訓練センター」としての機能を確立します 。裁縫や手工芸など、現金収入に直結するスキルの習得を支援し、彼女たちが自分の手で生活を支える誇りを持てるようにします。安心できる場所を提供することで、社会参加を促し、雇用機会を創出することで経済的な自立を支援します。

The Challenge in This Region

In this region, women face layered discrimination rooted in rigid social hierarchies and traditional norms. Many are denied education. Many lack opportunities to connect with society beyond their homes. In extreme cases, girls are abandoned, sold, or killed shortly after birth. Without economic means, women are deprived of voice, agency, and dignity. There is a profound shortage of safe learning spaces where women can recognize their own worth and gain the tools to stand independently.

Our Response: A Safe Space for Skills and Economic Empowerment

After school hours, the center will function as a vocational training hub for women. We will provide training in sewing, handicrafts, and other income-generating skills. Through earning their own income, women gain not only financial stability, but dignity and influence within their households.

結び手はこれまで、貧困地域の女性たちに対し、裁縫などのスキル習得を通じた経済的自立支援を行ってきました 。彼女たちが少しずつ収入を得ることで、家庭内での地位が向上し、自らの学費を支払って復学する女性もいます。それがひいては子どもたちの教育への理解にも繋がるという、ポジティブな循環を生み出しています。また雇用創出だけでなく、女性の衛生状況・健康状態の改善にも繋がっています。

Achievements of Musubi-Te

Musubi-Te has been empowering women in impoverished communities by helping them gain economic independence through skills training, such as sewing. As they start earning an income, their standing within their households rises, and some are even able to fund their own return to school. This sparks a positive ripple effect, fostering greater support for children’s education and inspiring families to value learning. Beyond creating employment, these initiatives also improve women’s hygiene, health, and overall well-being, enabling them to lead more dignified, empowered lives.

▶︎拠点活用3: 医療アクセスが絶たれた村に、「安心のネットワーク」を

Initiative 3: Creating a Network of Safety Where Healthcare Is Out of Reach

この地域の課題

ビハール州の農村部では、医療施設への物理的な距離が遠いだけでなく、救急車やタクシーすら村の中に入ってこない、あるいは拒否されるという深刻な医療格差が存在します 。妊婦や高齢者が、適切な処置さえあれば助かる状況で命を落とすことが珍しくありません。「病気になれば終わり」という恐怖が常に背中合わせにあることが、人々の心理的な自立を阻む大きな要因となっています。

★この拠点で「命の安心」を

医療へのアクセスが困難な村で、本拠点が定期的な医療活動の拠点となります。妊婦や高齢者、怪我人がタクシーの乗車拒否に遭う現状を改善するため、救急時の対応や医療車両の手配を担うセンターとして機能します。移動手段として専用のリキシャーを配備し、必要な時に村人が安心して利用できるようにします。

The Challenge in This Region

In rural areas of Bihar, medical facilities are often physically distant. Worse still, ambulances and taxis frequently refuse to enter marginalized villages. Pregnant women and elderly residents sometimes lose their lives in situations where treatment could have saved them. The constant fear that “if I fall ill, it’s over” deeply undermines people’s sense of security and independence.

Our Response: A Lifeline for the Village

In villages with limited access to healthcare, our hub will serve as a base for regular medical activities. It will function as a center to respond to emergencies and arrange medical transportation, addressing situations where pregnant women, the elderly, or injured individuals are denied taxi services. Dedicated rickshaws will be provided as a reliable means of transportation, ensuring that villagers can travel safely whenever the need arises.

結び手は設立当初から、コロナ禍における医療物資の配布や、病気で動けなくなった人々への支援を続けてきました。2025年ビハールでの洪水災害の際にも、現場の社会活動家と連携し、行政の支援が届かない層へ、草の根のネットワークで医療の手を差し伸べてきた確かな実績があります。

Achievements of Musubi-Te

Since its founding, Musubi-Te has continuously supported communities by distributing medical supplies during the COVID-19 pandemic and assisting those immobilized by illness. During the 2025 floods in Bihar, we partnered with local social activists to extend medical aid to populations overlooked by government relief, demonstrating a proven track record of delivering healthcare through grassroots networks.

建設と運営のために

建設費は株式会社アドベンチャーによって全額支援していただけることが決まりました。しかし、このプロジェクトを本当に村の【永続的な希望】にするには、優秀な先生たちへの報酬、子どもたちの学用品、医療スタッフの配置、リキシャーの運営といったランニングコストが継続的に必要です。毎年発生するこの費用なくしては、どれだけ立派な建物も、やがて機能停止してしまいます。

For Construction and Operation

We are deeply grateful that Adventure Inc. has committed to fully funding the construction costs of this facility. However, to make this center a lasting hope for the village, ongoing operational costs are essential, such as salaries for qualified teachers, school supplies for children, medical staff coordination, and operation of the rickshaw transport system. Without sustainable support, even the strongest building will eventually cease to function.

We are seeking supporters who will stand with us — not for a one-time donation, but as partners in investing in the village’s future.

About Musubi-Te

Musubi-Te was founded on one conviction: To reduce to zero the number of people who are unable to strive because of circumstances beyond their control. We conduct on-the-ground research, build trust with local communities, and design practical, sustainable solutions. We are not offering charity alone. Founder CEO Kotaro Fukuoka Profile

Born in Kumamoto Prefecture in 1989 and raised in Aichi Prefecture

Graduated from the University of Tokyo, Department of Literature, Faculty of Thought and Culture in 2014, and then backpacked across the globe.

After graduating from university, he traveled the world as a backpacker. From 2016, he worked for about three years at Adecco Japan in human resources. In 2018, he moved to India, motivated to provide opportunities for those unable to thrive due to external circumstances. While working at JAC Recruitment India Private Limited, he expanded connections with NGOs, villages, and slum communities. In 2020, he became the CEO of Amegumi India Private Limited, the Indian branch of the IT startup Amegumi Co., Ltd., and simultaneously began providing food and medical support during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, he founded the current NPO Musubi-Te, and established the Musubi-Te Foundation in 2023. The company Amegumi India Private Limited was later renamed Hito HR Consulting Private Limited, which he continues to manage.

福岡君と結び手へのささやかな支援を始めてから数年になる。私は、外資系コンサルティング会社で20年間仕事をして、いまは、独立し、大学院でも教えている。

It has been several years since I began offering modest support to Fukuoka and Musubi-Te. I spent 20 years working at a foreign consulting firm, and now I am independent and also teach at a graduate school.

I have always carried the awareness that, if possible, I want to keep working to help others and make the world a better place. It was in this mindset that I noticed Fukuoka and Musubi-Te’s activities. Seeing their support for impoverished regions in India—where opportunities are lost simply because people lack money—I realized, “This is exactly the kind of work I’ve wanted to be part of.”

I felt grateful just knowing that Fukuoka and Musubi-Te were working on the front lines, helping people facing life-and-death situations. I wanted to support, even a little, those who dedicate themselves wholeheartedly to this work.

Seeing their activities through social media—especially photos of children from impoverished communities in India gathering with joyful faces—fills me with an incredible sense of fulfillment. Simply witnessing their happiness and hope, without overthinking, conveys such a strong emotional impact. Even someone like me, who has lived in a competitive capitalist society, can feel this joy. Perhaps, in a way, I continue supporting them for my own sense of purpose. To put it boldly, part of my own fulfillment and reason for working may come from supporting these children.

In this sense, I can only express my gratitude to Fukuoka and Musubi-Te. I encourage them to keep up the great work. I also hope that anyone reading this will consider supporting them, and experience firsthand how supporting such efforts can enrich your own sense of purpose and fulfillment.

私と「結び手」代表の福岡さんは、元同じバンドのメンバーであり、多感な時期に音楽に情熱をぶつけ合った男臭い間柄です。彼と共にステージに立った想い出は荒々しくも、今でも昨日の事のように瑞々しく、私を支え続けてくれています。私がバックパッカーにアジアへ旅ったその後、彼は南米に旅立ちました。まだ知らないものを知りたい、美しいもの、醜いもの、世界をこの全身で感じたい、そして誰かの力になりたい、お互いそんなビジョンを夢見ていたのかもしれません。

彼が支援している場所ビハール州ブッダガヤは、お釈迦様が長年の修行の末に悟りを開かれた聖地であり、仏教僧侶である私や全ての仏教徒にとって憧れの場所であるのは言うまでもありません。そんな場所に根ざし生きる人々が、世界から見放され続け、明日生きる術さえ失いつつある状況なのは悲しむべき事です。

2023年の夏、私が初めてブッダガヤを訪れた時、そこにいる子供たちの眼差しに、深く胸を打たれました。彼らは子供よりも子供らしく、異邦人である私に対し好奇心を剥き出しにして、まるで新しい遊び相手が出来たかのように近づき、笑顔で迎えてくれました。

その瞬間から、私にとって彼らは遥か遠くに暮らす異国の人々ではなく、私と同じように幸せな日々を求める隣人として感じるようになりました。

これだけITが発達し、物に溢れた現代において、今なお貧困に苦しむ人々が存在し、そこから脱出する機会すらないのは恥ずべき事です。全ての貧困をなくす事は容易ではなくとも、その一歩は簡単に踏み出す事が出来ます。

国際社会の一員として、こんな私でもほんの少し力になれるのなら…そんな気持ちで「結び手」の活動を支援しています。

I and Fukuoka, the founder of Musubi-Te, were once members of the same band, sharing a raw, passionate camaraderie in our formative years as we poured our energy into music. Memories of performing on stage together remain vivid, supporting me even now as if they happened yesterday. After I traveled across Asia as a backpacker, he set off for South America. Perhaps we both dreamed of the same vision: to experience the unknown, feel the beauty and ugliness of the world with our whole being, and to help others along the way.

Now, that same friend is calling from faraway India, asking for support.

The place where he works—Bodh Gaya in Bihar—is a sacred site where the Buddha attained enlightenment after years of rigorous practice. For Buddhist monks like me and for all Buddhists, it is a place of reverence. It is heartbreaking that the people who live there remain overlooked by the world, losing even the means to survive from day to day.

When I first visited Bodh Gaya in the summer of 2023, the gazes of the children there struck me deeply. They were more childlike than their age, curious toward me as a stranger, approaching and greeting me with smiles as if I were a new playmate.

From that moment, these children ceased to feel like distant strangers and instead became neighbors, seeking happy lives just like I do.

In today’s world, overflowing with IT and material abundance, it is shameful that people still suffer in poverty with no means to escape it. While eradicating all poverty may be impossible, taking the first step is simple—and necessary.

As a member of the international community, I feel that even someone like me can offer a small measure of support. With that conviction, I continue to support the activities of Musubi-Te.

福岡さんと出会ったのは、6年ほど前のこと。Irohaで働いていた大森シェフが面白い人がいるから会って欲しいと言われ、会いました。
バンガロールに住んでいる日本人で、教育を受けてない子どもたちに青空教室をしている人がいると。
実際福岡さんに会うと、とても静かにしかし、しっかりとした口調で、貧しくても自立し、自ら未来を拓けるような仕組みをつくりたいと言っていたのを今でも覚えています。
その想いに共感して、その場でIrohaで募金活動を始め、お客様の要らなくなった洋服を引き取り、福岡さんに有効活用してもらうことを決めました。
それから6年を経て結び手は飛躍し、さらに拡大する機会を得ました。
日本人にとってインドは遠い国かもしれませんが、その国で泥臭く実直に活動している福岡さんをサポートしてもらえたら幸いです。

I met Mr. Fukuoka about six years ago. Chef Omori, who was working at Iroha at the time, told me, “There’s an interesting person you should meet.” He explained that there was a Japanese person living in Bangalore running open-air classes for children who had no access to education.

When I actually met Mr. Fukuoka, he spoke quietly but firmly. I still remember him saying that he wanted to create a system where even impoverished children could become independent and shape their own futures.

I was deeply moved by his vision, and immediately began fundraising through Iroha. We collected unwanted clothes from our customers and entrusted them to Mr. Fukuoka for meaningful use.

Six years later, Musubi-Te has grown tremendously and now has the opportunity to expand even further. India may seem distant to many Japanese, but I hope people will support Mr. Fukuoka, who is working earnestly and steadfastly on the ground in that country.

I met Mr. Fukuoka while traveling during our student days, and over time, our friendship has now spanned more than ten years. I am one of many drawn to his character and dedication.

Having been born in Japan, I live surrounded by an overwhelming flow of information. According to the news, vast amounts of information are consumed at incredible speed, leaving people around the world exhausted. Through Musubi-Te’s activities, I learned that there are people who, unlike most of us, cannot even “access correct information and make informed choices,” let alone feel fatigued by information.

We are all doing our best in our own lives—including myself—but I believe that, as one “global citizen,” the first step is simply to “know” the world beyond our immediate surroundings. 2年半前に初めて訪れたビハールは、素朴ながら人々の生命力を感じさせると同時に、歴史ある神聖な土地として守られる不思議な場所でした。

ビハールでは、福岡さんと現地の熱心な団体や先生達が、子どもたちの学びの機会を創り、コミュニケーションをとりながら人々の生活環境を理解し、公共の支援が届かない人々との関係を築く姿が今でも強く印象に残っています。

その時に改めて、結び手に寄付を託すことで、「祈り」を「支援」に変えて届けてくれるんだと確信しました。それ以来微力ではありますが、マンスリーサポートや、日本での循環活動の参加費の寄付をさせて頂いています。

When I first visited Bihar two and a half years ago, I found it to be a simple yet vibrant place, full of life, and at the same time, a sacred land preserved through history—truly a unique experience.

In Bihar, I was deeply impressed by how Mr. Fukuoka and dedicated local organizations and teachers create learning opportunities for children, engage with the community to understand living conditions, and build relationships with people who are beyond the reach of public support.

It was then that I realized: by entrusting donations to Musubi-Te, one’s “prayers” are transformed into meaningful “support” that reaches those in need. Since then, I have contributed modestly through monthly support and participation fees for recycling activities in Japan.

The reason their aid reaches those who need it is simple: Mr. Fukuoka moves without hesitation whenever someone is in need, and the interns and staff translate their strong desire to “do something” into concrete action.

I sincerely hope that more people will continue to empathize with those living under the current conditions in Bihar, and I send my heartfelt support to everyone who works tirelessly and to those striving to overcome daily challenges.
