ゴジラの生誕を祝うフェスイベント「ゴジラ・フェス2026」が今年も11月3日に開催！あわせて、中川和博監督による新作特撮『フェス・ゴジラⅡ 東京消失』の製作が今年も決定しました。

1954年の誕生から72年。ゴジラは常に時代の象徴として君臨し続けてきました。第1作目となる映画『ゴジラ』の公開日を記念して、世界中のファンが熱狂する「ゴジラ・フェス」。その目玉である完全撮り下ろし特撮短編『フェス・ゴジラ』シリーズは、CG全盛の時代にあえて「特撮の魂」を継承し、怪獣たちの激闘を刻み続けています。

前作『フェス・ゴジラⅡ 新宿炎上』のラストシーンを覚えているでしょうか。
新宿の街を焼き尽くし、体内炉心の暴走により臨界点を超えた——「バーニングミレニアムゴジラ」。立ちこめる蒸気と熱線の向こう側に、新たなる強敵の影を見たとき、誰もが確信したはずです。「次は、とんでもないことが起きる」と。

2026年、ついに「その時」が訪れます。

本プロジェクトは、その瞬間を皆さまと共に迎えるための参加型企画です。ファンの熱量をそのままゴジラの体内エネルギーへと変え、史上最も熱く、最も美しいバーニングミレニアムゴジラを爆誕させましょう！

今回のクラウドファンディングは、フェス・ゴジラ史上初の主役・ゴジラのスーツ制作プロジェクトです。これまでライバル怪獣のスーツ制作には挑戦してきましたが、ゴジラのスーツを新造するのは本フェスにおいて初の試みとなります。

バーニングミレニアムゴジラのスーツ制作における最大のポイントは、前作ではCGで表現していたバーニング状態を「常時発光する新造スーツ」として具現化する点にあります。これは、非常に手間のかかる挑戦です。

ベースには、『ゴジラ2000 ミレニアム』撮影時のオリジナル型を使用。そこにバーニングを再現するための特殊な工程を積み上げていきます。

例えば、通常のスーツは柔軟な不透明素材で造られますが、発光ギミックを仕込むためには、表皮を光が透過する透明・半透明素材へと置き換えねばなりません。さらに、ゴジラ固有の複雑なテクスチャーを損なうことなく透明化するため、同じ部位の「雌型」を新たに作り起こす必要があります。

真空成形をはじめとする熱加工技術は、30年前より飛躍的に進歩しました。今回は最新技術をフル活用して制作に臨みますが、それでも手作業を要する工程は依然として膨大です。ボディスーツのダミーを成形し、そこから無数の灼熱パーツを複製型から作り出す。その手間は、実に通常のスーツの3倍。一切の妥協を許さない、緻密な作業が続きます。

さらに、理想のバーニング状態を追求するには、各チームの精緻な連携が不可欠です。頭部マスター型を再制作する「造形」、光源を配置する「電飾」、炎や蒸気を操る「操演」、そして口の開閉とシステムを統合する「機電」。各分野のプロフェッショナルが密に重なり合い、究極の一躯を鍛え上げていきます。通常のスーツであれば6週間で完成するところ、今作ではその倍、3ヶ月に及ぶ制作期間を費やします。

この大掛かりな工程に向け、4月27日には東宝の倉庫にて「スーツ検証会」を実施しました。中川監督をはじめ、各専門分野のスタッフが集結。バーニングの範囲や発光の密度を入念に確認しながら、「ここは発光していた方が良い」といった技術的な対話を重ね、理想の仕様を決定しました。

── CG全盛の今、あえて「実物の造形」でバーニング状態を表現することで、映像の迫力や見栄えはどのように変わると期待されていますか？
実際に発光していることで周囲の煙への影響、相対した敵への照り返しが発生します。それらすべてが「今、目の前にあるもの」としての現実感を高めてくれるはずです。本物が存在していると信じられるパワーが、そこにはあります！

── この新しいスーツをまとい、劇中ではどのようなアクションや「暴れっぷり」を披露する予定ですか？
今回は敵怪獣がいますので、まずは敵とのバトル。スピーディーさと重厚さ、そしてバーニング状態での熱線のパワーを表現していきたいと思っています。

── 完成した映像を見る際、ファンの方々に「ここに注目してほしい！」と伝えたいポイントはどこでしょうか？
そこにいる、という実在感です。動けば周囲の煙を巻き込み、バーニングの発光が辺りを照らし出す。そして何より、撮影が終わってもこの世の中にバーニングミレニアムゴジラが存在しているという喜び！！
実際に会えるという奇跡！！それらを噛み締めてご覧いただくと、幸福度増し増しです。

── CGではなく「実物の造形」でバーニング状態を表現することには、どのような意義やこだわりがありますか？
実は、前作の『新宿炎上』でも、すべてをデジタルで処理すると1995年当時の特撮の雰囲気が消えてしまうと考え、胸のパーツだけは発光ギミックを仕込んだデジタルリファレンス（合成の参照用）をわざわざ作っていました。フェス・ゴジラは東宝の特撮映画の伝統をお見せするのが趣旨だと思い、こういう提案を続けています。

── 新作映像を見るにあたって、ファンの方々には何に注目してほしいですか？
若狭氏：映像そのものはもちろんですが、我々がどのような気持ちでこの仕事に挑んでいるかを知った上で見ていただけたら嬉しいです。世界中のゴジラファンに喜んでもらえるような怪獣をフェス・ゴジラに提供することを第一に仕事しています。我々も、作品の完成度がさらにパワーアップすることを期待して製作に臨んでいます。

単にスーツを制作するだけでなく、『フェス・ゴジラⅡ』そのものを皆さまと共に作り上げたい！そんな思いから、今回は支援金額に応じて達成できる項目が増えていく「ネクストゴール企画」をご用意しました。皆さまからゴジラへと寄せられたエネルギーに応じて、『フェス・ゴジラⅡ 東京消失』はさらに豪華になります。

Godzilla Fest 2026 is happening November 3rd (Tue)! Along with this annual celebration of the King of the Monsters, production has been officially announced for "Fest Godzilla II: Tokyo Vanishing," the latest all-new TOKUSATSU entry in the Godzilla Fest tradition!

For 72 years since its birth in 1954, Godzilla has reigned supreme as an icon of every era. Godzilla Fest, a celebration commemorating the release date of the original 1954 film, ignites passion in fans worldwide. At the heart of this excitement is the "Fest Godzilla" short film series. Even in this age of full CGI, the DNA of ”TOKUSATSU” deeply engraved in the Godzilla spirit must not be allowed to die out. This conviction has driven us to continue crafting these completely new, raw, special-effects short films, carving the fierce battles of giant monsters into the history.

Do you remember the final moments of the previous entry, "Fest Godzilla II: Shinjuku Burning"? As a direct sequel to that film, the story now continues. Burning through the streets of Shinjuku, its internal reactor melting down past its critical point—the "Burning Millennium Godzilla." Looking through the rising steam and the blinding crimson heat rays, catching a glimpse of a menacing new shadow, everyone must have known: "Next, something truly unprecedented is going to happen."

Now in 2026, that moment has finally arrived.

This project is an interactive campaign designed to welcome that very moment together with all of you. Let’s turn the fiery passion of global fans directly into Godzilla's internal energy, and bring the most intense and beautiful "Burning Millennium Godzilla" suit to life!

This crowdfunding campaign marks a historic milestone for the Fest Godzilla: our first-ever project dedicated to creating a suit for the main star, Godzilla itself. While we have previously taken on the challenge of resurrecting its rival monsters in suit form, constructing a brand-new Godzilla suit from scratch is an entirely new endeavor for this festival.

The absolute pinnacle of this project lies in transforming the "Burning State"—which was rendered via CGI in the previous film—into a tangible, physical reality: a newly sculpted suit that glows constantly from within. This is an extraordinarily demanding and labor-intensive challenge.

The foundation of the suit will utilize the original molds used during the filming of Godzilla 2000: Millennium. From there, we will layer multiple specialized processes to replicate the burning state.

For example, while conventional monster suits are crafted from flexible, opaque materials, integrating an internal lighting system requires us to replace the skin with translucent or transparent elements. Furthermore, to retain Godzilla’s uniquely intricate skin texture without sacrificing transparency, a completely new "female mold" (negative mold) for those specific body parts must be created. Thermal processing technologies like vacuum forming have advanced exponentially compared to 30 years ago. We will harness these cutting-edge techniques to the absolute fullest, yet the sheer volume of manual, handcrafted labor remains staggering.

We must cast a full-scale dummy of the body suit, and from that, replicate countless glowing segments from specialized molds. The effort required is literally three times that of a standard suit. This is meticulous, painstaking work where absolutely no compromise is permitted.

Achieving the ultimate burning state demands flawless, seamless synergy across multiple departments. "Sculpting" to recreate the head’s master mold; "Lighting" to strategically position the internal light sources; "Special Effect Artists" to control the smoke and steam; and "Animatronics" to seamlessly integrate the jaw movement with the electrical systems. The absolute top professionals from each field are coming together, blending their craftsmanship to forge this ultimate creation. While a standard suit takes about six weeks to build, this monumental undertaking will require double that time—a dedicated three-month production period.

To prepare for this massive undertaking, a technical suit review was held at the TOHO storehouse on April 27. Director Kazuhiro Nakagawa and experts from every department gathered to analyze the project. Reviewing the glowing coverage and light density down to the millimeter, the team engaged in deep technical dialogues—making crucial artistic calls like, "This specific area needs a stronger ambient glow"—to firmly lock in the ideal specifications.

To mark the launch of this project, Director Kazuhiro Nakagawa and Sculptor Shinichi Wakasa sat down to share their meticulous craftsmanship for the brand-new suit, along with the highly anticipated highlights of the upcoming film!

── In this digital age, what kind of visual impact and realism do you expect to achieve by bringing the "Burning" state to life through a physical TOKUSATSU suit rather than CGI? 
"When the suit is actually glowing right there on set, it naturally alters the surrounding smoke and casts realistic reflections onto the opposing monster. All of these elements elevate the sense of reality, proving to the audience that this creature is 'right there in front of our eyes.' There is an undeniable power in being able to believe that the real thing actually exists!"

── With this brand-new suit, what kind of intense action and destructive rampages can we expect to see on screen? What highlights can you share with the fans at this stage? 
"Since we have an enemy monster this time, the clash with the enemy is paramount. I want to fully capture a battle that blends thrilling speed with immense, heavy scale, while channeling the sheer, devastating power of its atomic breath in this 'Burning' state."

── When the final film is released, what specific details or elements of the practical effects do you most want fans to keep their eyes on? 
"The absolute sense of physical presence. As it moves, it sweeps up the surrounding smoke, and its burning crimson glow illuminates the entire area. But above all, the ultimate joy is knowing that even after filming ends, the "Burning Millennium Godzilla" will truly exist in this world!! The absolute miracle of being able to meet it in real life!! If you keep that in mind while watching, your sense of happiness will burn red-hot!"

── What is the profound significance and craftsmanship behind choosing a physical suit to embody the "Burning" state rather than relying on CGI?
"To be honest, even in our previous film, "Fest Godzilla II: Shinjuku Burning", we knew that relying entirely on digital post-processing would cause us to lose that authentic TOKUSATSU atmosphere of the original 1995 special effects. That is why we went out of our way to build a physical, glowing chest piece to serve as a digital reference for the compositing. I believe the core purpose of 'Fest Godzilla' is to showcase the grand traditions of Toho’s TOKUSATSU films, and that is why I continue to push for these practical methods."

── For the upcoming new film being created through this crowdfunding campaign, what do you hope global fans will focus on the most?
"While I certainly want everyone to enjoy the footage itself, it would bring me great joy if fans watch it knowing the deep passion and spirit our team pours into this craft. Our absolute priority is to provide 'Fest Godzilla' with monsters that will bring pure joy to Godzilla fans all across the globe. We are diving into this production with the highest expectations to power up the film's quality to a whole new level."

We don’t want to just create a suit; we want to craft Fest Godzilla II: Tokyo Vanishing together with all of you! With that passion in mind, we have set up a "Stretch Goals" campaign where more milestones are unlocked as the total funding grows. Important Notice Before Pledging (Please Read Carefully)
■ Intellectual Property Rights
・Ownership of Rights: All intellectual property rights, including copyrights to the Special Video and neighboring rights related to any performances, belong exclusively to TOHO Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "TOHO"). Backers participating in the film shoot must agree not to exercise any moral rights of performers regarding the Special Video.
・Promotional Use: TOHO reserves the right to utilize the Special Video for future promotional or other business purposes. Participants must agree not to raise any objections regarding such use, including any claims related to portrait rights (right of publicity).
・Prohibition of Unauthorized Use: Utilizing the Special Video beyond the scope of personal use (including, but not limited to, uploading to the internet or personal social media accounts) is strictly prohibited, regardless of whether it is for commercial or non-commercial purposes.
■ On-Set Rules and Regulations
・Costumes and Props: Participants must provide their own costumes and props for the day of the shoot. However, wearing or bringing items that feature third-party intellectual property (characters, logos, etc., owned by companies other than TOHO) is strictly prohibited, with the sole exception of Godzilla and other TOHO monster characters.
・Language Support: All operations, instructions, and staff correspondence on the day of the event will be conducted in Japanese only.
■ Written Pledge (Pledge Form)
・Signature Required: On the day of the event, you will be required to review and sign a formal Pledge Form outlining the above rules and other compliance guidelines. If a minor (under the legal age of majority) is participating, the signature of a parent or legal guardian is also required for entry.
