はじめに・ご挨拶

相馬中村神社で氏子総代長を務める立谷三郎と申します。相馬中村神社は今年2月に震度6強を観測した福島県沖地震で被災し、境内の建物や設備に大きな被害が発生しました。このままでは、千年以上続く伝統行事「相馬野馬追 総大将出陣式」の開催も危ぶまれてしまいます。東日本大震災や原発事故、台風19号、コロナ禍と地域を襲った数々の苦難を乗り越えて開催され続けてきた伝統をなんとか後世へ繋ぐために今回、神社の復旧に向けご支援を募ることにしました。

My name is Saburo Tateya and am the representative of shrine parishioners at Soma Nakamura-jinja Shrine. The earthquake in February caused heavy damage to the shrine, other buildings and facilities in the precinct . If no measures are taken, the historical formal kickoff ceremony cannot be held, which contines more than 1000 years as well. Therefore, we have finally decided to ask for support to restore the shrine in order to somehow last the traditions that have been passed over for long years after overcoming the Great East Japan Earthquake, the nuclear accident, typhoon and Covid-19 pandemic.

福島県の相双地区に伝わる「相馬野馬追」は、千年以上もの歴史を持つとされる伝統行事です。3つの神社から総勢400騎の騎馬武者たちが雲雀ヶ原祭場地を目指す「お行列」、甲冑姿で行われる「甲冑競馬」、騎馬武者たちが激しく神旗を奪い合う「神旗争奪戦」など3日間にわたって行われ、コロナ禍の前は例年16万人もの観光客が訪れていました。馬のお祭りとしても世界最大級の規模を誇る野馬追が故郷にあることは、私たちの大きな誇りです。

The Soma Nomaoi festival in Soso area of Fukushima Pref. is a traditional event with a history of more than 1000 years to celebrate martial skill and horse riding. "The pageant" to the site , " armor race" by horse warriors and  " sacred flag competition" were held by a total of 400 mounted warriors from the three shrines for three days. And 160,000 tourists visited every year before the pandemic. This is one of the largest horse festivals in the world and it gives us confidence.

国の重要文化財に指定されている相馬中村神社は、相馬野馬追において、総大将が出陣する「出陣式」が行われる重要な神社です。古くから伝わる総大将三献の儀が厳かに行われた後、総大将を先頭に騎馬武者たちがこの神社から、法螺貝の合図とともに出陣します。
Soma Nakamura-jinja Shrine, which is designated as a national important cultural property, has a key role to held the "kickoff ceremony" in which the commander-in-chief gives a war cry. After the historical ritual ceremony, horse-riding warriors start to march from this shrine with the signal of trumpet shell sound, led by the commander-in-chief.

今年2月の大地震で、東日本大震災よりも大きな被害が発生
The earthquake in February caused greater damage than the Great East Japan Earthquake.

東日本大震災の津波や原発事故で地域が大きな被害を受ける中、相馬中村神社では2018年に大規模改修がようやく完了し、「遷宮祭」が開かれました。これが復興への第一歩になると思っていた矢先、台風19号や度重なる地震を受け、2021年2月13日に震度6を観測した福島県沖地震で、神社にはついにこれまでの災害以上の大きな被害が発生してしまいました。

Soma Nakamura-jinja shrine finally completed a large-scale renovation in 2018 and "Sengusai(transfer ceremony)"  was held,  suffered by the tsunami and NPP accidents caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake. We thought this would be the first step toward revitalization, however typhoon , earthquakes and the Fukushima offshore earthquake, which measured 6 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale on February 13,  finally caused a big damage to the shrine that we never experienced until now.

参道の24基の石灯篭はほとんどが崩れ落ち、大鳥居には裂け目が。石の太鼓橋は一部が壊れ、欄干が欠落。神輿殿など複数の建物の屋根や壁が崩壊しました。野馬追の出陣式を安全な形で迎えるためには、境内の建物や設備の大規模な復旧工事が必須です。しかし国からの補助金は神社の本殿復旧の一部費用にしか拠出されないことがわかり、補助金が適用されない復旧費用は総額1200万円に上ることがわかりました。この途方もない額を、自分たちでどう賄えばいいのか。目の前が真っ暗闇になりました。

Most of the 24 stone lanterns on the approach collapsed and the big torii gate got cracks. A part of arched stone bridge was broken and the railing was missing. The roofs and walls of buildings were collapsed such as the Mikoshi-den and others. Large-scale restoration work on buildings and facilities in the precincts is needed to safely held the departure ceremony. However, subsidies from the government were not enough  to restore the main shrine and the cost of restoration that subsidies were not applied was 12 million yen in total. How can we cover this large cost? We cannot see the light and totally lost our hope.

相馬市では2019年の台風19号による水害や今回の地震、さらにコロナ禍で企業も住宅も大きな被害を受けています。コロナ禍で地域経済も打撃を受けており、地元企業から協賛を集めることも難しい状況です。そこでクラウドファンディングを実施し、神社の復旧に向けて広くご支援を募ることにしました。皆様からご支援いただいた資金は、相馬野馬追の開催に間に合うよう、総大将や騎馬武者、観客に安全を担保するための復旧工事の費用に充てさせていただきます。支援者の方には、相馬中村神社での出陣式を特別席でご覧いただけるチケットや、相馬野馬追のオリジナルグッズを感謝の気持ちとして提供させていただきます。

Not only typhoon in 2019 but the earthquake and the Covid-19 pandemic have caused severe damage to companies and houses in our city. It has also damaged our local economy and makes difficult to ask for sponsorship to local companies. Therefore, we stand up to start crowdfunding campaign and ask widespread support for the restoration of the shrine. You donation would be used to cover the cost of restoration to ensure safety for visitors, mounted warriors and the commander-in-chief to meet the timeline. For donors, VIP tickets or original goods are gifted to see the formal kickoff ceremony at Soma Nakamura-jinja shrine as our gratitude.

危機を乗り越え、千年以上の伝統をつなぐために
To overcome the crisis and last 1000＋ years of this historical festival.

私にとって相馬野馬追は小さい頃からの憧れであり、特別な行事です。私と同郷の幼馴染の友人は騎馬武者として毎年野馬追に出場していて、その姿を間近でずっと応援してきました。東日本大震災で友人は家族や家を失い落ち込んでいましたが、翌年の野馬追に向けて「やるぞ」と奮起し、津波で流された甲冑も新しくしつらえていました。しかしその年の冬、友人は亡くなってしまいました。私が相馬中村神社の総代に任命されたのもちょうどその時期で、野馬追の伝統をつなぐことに、運命と使命感を感じています。

Soma Nomaoi is admirable festival since I was a kid as it is a special. My old friend participates in this festival every year as a mounted warrior and I have been cheering him up close. He was depressed as he had lost his family and house at the Great East Japan Earthquake, but he was restarted from the bottom to rejoin the festival with preparing new armor that had been swept away by tsunami. But he passed away in that winter. It was just that time that I was appointed as the representative of Soma Nakamura-jinja Shrine, and I feel a sense of fate and mission in connecting the tradition of Nomaoi.

この地域の人々にとっても、野馬追は大きな誇りであり、心の拠り所です。出場する馬の約半数の200頭ほどが地域で飼われていて、野馬追に出場するために厳しい冬も愛情を込めて飼育されています。年に一度の野馬追に騎馬武者として出場することは名誉であり、地域の子供たちはその姿に憧れて騎馬武者を目指します。出陣式も、神社に帰ってくる「お上がり」のときも、地域の住民たちが沿道にたくさん並んで応援します。

For the people of this region, Nomaoi is also a great pride and a cornerstone of our hearts. Almost 200 horses are kept in the community to participate the festival even though it is harsh wintertime. It is an honor to participate the festival as a mounted warrior and children in the community aspire to be. Many local people are waiting along the streets, both at  formal kickoff and returening ceremony.

野馬追は、地域の安寧と繁栄を願って開かれてきた神事です。今年はコロナ禍で規模を縮小しての開催となりますが、立て続けに災害や疫病がある中で、この時代だからこそ、この行事を地域の心の拠り所として開催しなくてはならないと感じています。相馬の伝統であるこのお祭りをこれからも千年、二千年とつないでいくためにご協力をお願いするとともに、ぜひこれをきっかけに皆さんに野馬追を知ってもらい、ご来場いただけたらと思っています。

Nomaoi is a Shinto ritual that has been held in the hope of the peace and prosperity of the region. The festival is going to be held on a smaller scale due to the pandemic this year. However, we believe that this event must be held as a place to support the minds of the local community though we face disasters and pandemic. We ask for your support  this traditional festival in Soma, to connect to the next 1000 or 2000  years. And,  we hope that this will be an opportunity for everyone to know this event and to come and see.

色んな方に手を差し伸べていただき、相馬野馬追の歴史と伝統をつなげていけたらという思いです。ここで終わらせるのは簡単ですが、それができないのが野馬追です。脈々と続いてきたつながりを、ここで投げ出すわけにはいかないのです。

We hope many of you support us to pass down the history and tradition of this festival. It's easy to end here, but we cannot. We cannot give up to throw our historical ties away.

相馬の人にとって、野馬追はようやく「夏が来た」と感じることのできる行事です。野馬追では、多くの市民がこの神社から出陣する騎馬武者たちを見守り、「いってらっしゃい」、帰ってくるときには「おかえり」と言うのが当たり前の風景になっています。そんな地域の風景を守るためにも、改修をして、必ずや人々の憩いの場にしていきたいと考えています。

This festival tells us the message," summer has finally come." And, it is a common scenery for many citizens to watch over mounted warriors who start from this shrine and say  greetings. In order to keep such local scenery, we would like to restore this shrine and make a place to relax.

野馬追をこれから先、何年続けられるかは、今にかかっていると思います。皆様にはご苦労をおかけしますが、どうか温かいご支援をよろしくお願いいたします。

We believe it depends now on how many years we can continue Nomaoi in the future. You might face many challenges but we ask for your understanding and support.

資金の使い道・実施スケジュール

7月24日の開催に間に合わせるべく、灯籠の復旧・大鳥居の補強・太鼓橋修繕・神輿殿、神楽殿の修復等を４月中旬より順次開始しています。7月24日までに全ての工事が終了する予定です。
