Our Backstory

Hello! We are Amanojaku, a professional taiko ensemble established in 1986. Based in Tokyo, our goal is to share the “Sound of Japan”, including its origins and traditions. Nationally, we are critically acclaimed within the traditional music community and have even performed various television commercials. From North and South America to Asia and Europe, we have been invited to perform in over 50 countries globally. And coming this September, we will be celebrating our 35th Anniversary!

How can you watch the 35th Anniversary Concert?

1. Experience it in-person at Nerima Bunka Center (Tsutsuji Hall)!

What is the purpose of this campaign? Why are you streaming the concert?

This crowdfunding campaign is to help us reach out to our global taiko community!

Under normal circumstances, we would be celebrating our 35th Anniversary with a full audience, but because of COVID, we had to carefully decide the best path for us and for our taiko community. Over this past year, we have been discussing whether or not we should have a concert, planning what it might look like with a smaller audience, and anticipating how we can make adjustments if, perish the thought, we have to make it a no-audience event. We also thought about the many people in our taiko community who may not be able to make it out to Tokyo for this concert. 

Bearing all of this in mind, we came to the decision that because we are in these complicated circumstances we must continue to uplift our community by sharing our passion through taiko. We believe we have channeled this passion, or jōnetsu, into this special performance and are thrilled to offer a video stream of our 35th Anniversary Concert Jōnetsu to our global family!

Of course, we have long believed that taiko is best experienced in person as the vibrations, the sounds, the stage, and the audience all culminate into a unique and unforgettable performance. However, with new challenges brings new opportunities! Although we may not be able to replicate the same live-performance experience, we are confident that we will still be able to convey our jōnetsu through this video stream!

Fund Allocation

• All proceeds, apart from the 5% Campfire platform fee and direct costs related to preparing the perks, will go towards other concert expenses (1,800,000 JPY).

• Any excess proceeds will be allocated to Amanojaku’s future efforts to share the beauty of taiko with the world.
