“I Want to Bring the Joy of English to Children All Over Japan through “At Home English Communication”!! ”

Hi everyone! This is Sumi, the founder of “lingomode”.
Thank you for being interested in my project and opening this project page.

First, let me briefly introduce myself and the project I have been working on since my freshman year in high school; the lingomode project.

lingomode aims to present the pleasure and enjoyment of learning English to preschool and elementary school children. Also, it focuses on the value of non-cognitive skills among linguistic studies within children and tackles improving communication skills among children as well.

THE PRODUCT - “One, Two, Three, English! ~At Home English Communication Book~”

This project aims to publish an originally made English workbook “One, Two, Three, English!” for children and their parents/guardians to enjoy English and communicate together.

Let’s unveil the workbook!

First, you will see an introduction that explains the purpose of early education in languages (especially English) and communication.

To summarize the explanation, learning languages and being able to utilize them is a needed skill when interacting with people around the world. Adding on to this English ability, when combined with proper communication skills, children can expand their perspective of the world by knowing different cultural backgrounds and values.

Furthermore, English and communication education done at a young age of children enhances the ability to absorb linguistic knowledge and enables them to have a tolerance towards new languages. It also allows children to grow their mental strength and logical comprehension skills.

Next, you will see two pages, one with an alphabet and another with an activity.

Throughout this workbook, children and their parents will work on every alphabet per day and complete the workbook within a month (each family can adjust the pace but this is the estimated length).

The first page with an alphabet, is named the “alphabet page”. On this page, children can see the shape of the alphabet with an appealing illustration that is related to the specific alphabet. There is a short poem, such as “A lot of apples fall from a tree, all the apples are for me” and 4 vocabulary that starts with the alphabet. There is a listening audio attached to it, this way, children can listen to it and repeat it.

The next page is named the “learning page” and there are three different activities/approaches.

Activity one is the “Vocabulary page”. Through this activity, children and their parents will encounter 12 simple words that are categorized such as fruits, food, weather, emotion, animals, etc.

Activity two is the “Conversation page”. On this page, children and their parents will first listen to a daily conversation and attempt to repeat it. They do not have to repeat it perfectly, the point of repeating it is to familiarize children to incorporate the sound of English and to output it orally.

Activity three is the “Activity page”. Yes, THE Activity page. This page will let children and their parents play simple games that are done in English. Again, they do not have to do it perfectly, but the focus of this page is to make them have proper communication - for children, to express their opinions, and for parents, to calmly listen and facilitate the expression of their children.

By repeating these activities, children and parents can BOTH grow together!

I Want Every Child to Have a Ticket to View a Big World!!

Through the publication of this workbook, I would not only want to entertain children with English and enable them to have a high-quality conversation, but I want to give them a chance to see a big world. I do not want the lifepath of children to be dependent on their environment in their youth, but I want them to have a ticket to take one step forward greet all the different people around the world, and make their own path.

Parents are a crucial part of the environment, thus, through this project, I also want to promote the importance of education and communication with children. I hope my dream reaches people who share the same thoughts as me and will support me in pushing through my passion, which will end up providing chances for many children to have dreams!
