Visual Impairment Should Never Mean Giving Up on a Dream
Practitioners with visual impairments often possess exceptional skills and extensive knowledge. Yet they face significant barriers in tasks beyond hands-on treatment, such as creating patient records, managing information, and documenting assessment results. The issue is not their ability—it is an environment that limits their potential.
We at Hachidori launched this project because we are determined to change that reality.
The Age of AI Opens Up New Possibilities
Many people worry that AI may take away their jobs. But when we look at it from a different perspective, AI can take on certain tasks and allow people to focus on what they do best.
Practitioners with visual impairments offer irreplaceable value through their highly developed sense of touch, professional experience, and compassionate relationships with their patients.
By creating an accessible system that enables people to work confidently regardless of disability, we aim to build a society where individuals with talent and passion can reach their full potential. This is the future we envision.

Humming Drops: An AI-Powered Support System Combining Technology with the Human Touch
[Concept Image of the System]
What we’re developing is an AI-powered medical support system for practitioners with visual impairments, called Humming Drops. It has already begun operating in a live production environment, connecting voice-based intake, AI-assisted chart creation, organization of test results, and treatment records. The self-care suggestion feature is something we will build going forward, based on feedback from real users. AI is never meant to replace human practitioners — it functions as a tool that supports their experience and skill. Once an environment is in place where they can practice with confidence on their own, practitioners with visual impairments will be able to fully demonstrate their true abilities.
Where Three Areas of Expertise Come Together to Achieve What One Person Alone Could Not
“I want to create a system that enables practitioners with visual impairments to work independently and with confidence.”
Although I held this vision strongly, I could not bring it to life on my own.
The project required expertise in AI development, knowledge of how to structure practitioner education, and a clear pathway for delivering the system to society.
It was then that I met Dr. Seigo Morii and Dr. Ken Sasaki.

Fumiko Shimpo — Project Founder and Social Implementation Lead
Drawing on her own life experiences, Fumiko has long questioned a society in which opportunities to learn, work, and choose one’s own path can be limited by disability or the circumstances into which a person is born.
She founded a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the independence and social participation of people with disabilities and operated a continuous employment support service for ten years. She has also supported students with visual impairments pursuing qualifications in acupuncture, moxibustion, anma massage, and shiatsu, as well as qualified practitioners seeking employment and opportunities to develop their careers.
In this project, she draws on her experience in social welfare and clinical practice to help transform the voices of people with disabilities and new technologies into practical solutions that can be used in society.
Qualifications: Social Welfare Officer qualification; nationally licensed acupuncturist, moxibustion practitioner, and anma massage shiatsu practitioner in Japan.

Ken Sasaki — Expertise from the Field of Education
Sasaki has devoted many years to educating people with visual impairments and training practitioners.
Drawing on his extensive firsthand experience, he supports this project by asking two essential questions:
“What do practitioners truly need?”
“What kind of education and training will enable them to work independently?”
Because Three Areas of Expertise Come Together
I bring experience from the fields of social welfare and organizational management.Dr. Morii brings expertise in research and AI technology.Dr. Sasaki brings experience from the fields of healthcare and education.
By combining our different areas of expertise, what none of us could have achieved alone is now moving toward real-world implementation.
A Future We Can Pursue Because There Are Three of Us
Our goal is not simply to develop AI.
Our goal is to create a society where people with visual impairments can continue working in a way that reflects who they are.
AI is not meant to take work away from people. It is a new tool designed to support human experience, professional skills, and the warmth of the human touch.
Each of us has followed a different professional path. One of us understands the realities of healthcare and social welfare, another knows the field of education, and another specializes in AI technology. By bringing together our respective knowledge and strengths, we launched this project.
Our first step is to conduct a series of real-world trials in Japan.
A Vision Inspired by the Experiences of People Close to Me
[Photo of a treatment session]
Through my many years of working in the field of disability welfare, I have met people who were unable to fully demonstrate their true abilities simply because they had a visual impairment.
If they could continue working in a way that reflects who they are, imagine how much value they could bring to society as a whole.
From this perspective, the potential of AI extends far beyond technology. I do not want anyone to give up on their dreams because of a visual impairment.
That belief is where this project began.

Our Goal Is Not AI, but a Society Where Everyone Can Continue Working in Their Own Way
We envision a society where people with visual impairments can work independently, achieve greater self-reliance, and provide patients with care they can trust. With an environment that enables them to provide treatment independently and with confidence, people with talent and dedication can realize their full potential.
When the environment changes, new possibilities emerge. With thoughtful support and continued effort, every individual can bring out their unique abilities.
Guided by this conviction, we continue moving forward.

Bringing This System from Japan to the World
The funds raised through this project will go toward bringing Humming Drops into practical, full-scale use. Our funding goal is ¥1 million. The system is already running on a live production URL, and we will use these funds to carry out further validation with real users, complete the system, and build a support structure for our first users. Once we’ve completed a system that allows practitioners with visual impairments to provide treatment independently and with confidence, we hope to expand this framework from Japan to the rest of the world.
Your Support Can Help Shape the Future
A future where everyone can work in a way that reflects who they are is not a distant dream. It is a reality that can begin right here, right now.
Will you join us in creating that future?
By building a system that enables practitioners with visual impairments to fully use their skills and provide patients with care they can trust, we aim to create more possibilities for the future.
We at Hachidori sincerely appreciate your support.

10月1日、HUMMINGDROPS(ハミングドロップス)のクラウドファンディングがスタートしました。
