As people of Tohoku, we also experienced natural disaster and want to support Indonesia!
As we watched the earthquake and tsunami disaster causing massive damage and loss of life in Indonesia, we as people of Tohoku understand and want to support the Indonesian people. We have Indonesian staff members here at ariTV, and after working together for many years, we feel this disaster has affected us directly. With the help members of the Indonesian Student Association in Sendai (Persatuan Pelajar Indonesia) and various businesses, we will hold the Indonesia Festival in Sendai charity event. This event will not only raises money for emergency relief in Sulawesi, but also will facilitate and broadcast cultural exchange between Indonesian and Japanese people. For this event, we will produce a Muslim-friendly Imoni (Taro Stew) using Miyagi-produced ingredients. With the assistance of local businesses and crowdfunding, we want to create local food that Indonesians, Japanese, and all participants can enjoy together!
Muslim-friendly Imoni Stew for sale at Indonesia Festival in Sendai
With the money raised, we will make Imoni stew with ingredients produced in Miyagi to sell at the Indonesia Festival in Sendai held on November 24th 2018. All proceeds made at the event will be donated to Sulawesi Island in Indonesia. Imoni stew is the autumn soul food of Miyagi. However, regular Imoni recipes contain cooking wine and non-halal meats, making them inedible for Muslims. For this event, we will produce an Imoni with NO ANIMAL PRODUCTS and NO ALCOHOL so that all people can eat it regardless of religious faith, something that everyone will find delicious!
Connecting with Indonesia and the World through Miyagi Cuisine!
The ingredients that will go into the Imoni soup are taro, white radish, carrot, burdock root, green onion, etc. from the abundant “Ingredient Empire” called Miyagi Prefecture. For this event, we want to use solely Miyagi ingredients to produce the epitome of Miyagi cuisine for Japan and the world to see!
