The opportunity to go abroad, to show my own expression and to share it with the local people was an important process for me, not only to broaden my horizons but also to understand the possibilities of expression. It was also a great opportunity to go to a new place and communicate with a lot of people who think differently.I still look back on those experiences and it motivates me to evolve my work. I am thrilled that the EU-Japan Fest Japan Committee has taken on the crowdfunding challenge to ensure that many artists have the wonderful opportunity.I hope that this crowdfunding project will be a success and that they will continue to support artists so that they can further expand their activities in the world.Related column: Report by the project organizer in Matera 2019Playable museum-Sara StolfiI participated in the international collaborative project "Humana Vergogna" (Human Shame) at the European Capital of Culture Matera 2019 (Italy), with the support from EU-Japan Fest Japan Committee. It was a very valuable experience for me as an actor and as a human being to meet different people and cultures, not only in Italy but also in Macedonia and the Balkans. It was a very valuable experience for me as an actor and as a human being. It brought out unexpected aspects of me as an expresser and made me clear about my future direction. I have always wanted to work abroad and I am very grateful to have been given the opportunity to take that step. The coronavirus pandemic has left the world in turmoil and Japanese artists more anxious than ever. It is a great encouragement to have the EU-Japan Fest Japan Committee that is helping us to find a way forward. Today, we introduce a ballet project in Novi Sad (Serbia), âMadame Butterflyâ!âMadame Butterflyâ is a collaborative work between the Serbian National Theatre in Novi Sad (Serbia) and the Europaballet in St. Pölten (Austria). This important international project for Novi Sad 2021-2022 brings together a creative team from more than 10 countries, including the world-renowned costume designer Ms Yumiko Takeshima, and dancers from both theatres. In spite of the prolonged production period and the restriction of the number of audiences amid the pandemic, both companies persevered with the preparations and two premieres took place on 14 and 18 May 2021. Preparation/Rehearsals (From the 28th EU-Japan Fest Official Report Book) The work received two soloists for several roles and among them, Ms Nichika Shibata from the Europaballet was cast for Cho-Cho-San, and Mr Naoyuki Atsumi from the Serbian National Theatre danced as Prince Yamadori. The production was a great success, receiving positive reviews from both critics and audiences, and was covered extensively in the Serbian and Austrian media. The production is now being prepared for a tour of Austria and Japan. That became a great opportunity for Japanese dancers of the Novi Sad National Theatre and the Europa Ballet. The challenge of a world tour began in 1998. We were invited to perform in the European Capital of Culture Stockholm, and that was our first project with EU-Japan Fest. Experiencing first-hand the enthusiasm of EU-Japan Fest for supporting arts and culture from Japan has been a great source of energy for our work. Since then, we have had many opportunities to perform at the European Capitals of Culture, all of which have been wonderful and unique experiences for us as performers. This time they have decided to take the challenge of "crowdfunding" in order to further strengthen their work in supporting arts by Japanese to Europe. I sincerely hope that their passion will be understood and shared by many people!Performance at the European Capital of Culture Pafos 2017 (Cyprus) Related ColumnïŒOn the participation in the European Capital of Culture Pafos 2017 (Cyprus)The Challengers-Masa Ogawa

CarbonneEuropean Capital of CultureThe European Capital of Culture is an unforgettable memory for me. The city chosen as the Capital of Culture shines exceptionally brightly in that short period of time. It is filled with a special atmosphere. At that special time, I visited that special city and made friends. My memory is tied to that city, and I can vividly recall the glittering street corners. It is also fun when friends made in that city suddenly contact me when they visit Japan. The term "cultural exchange" sounds so grandiose, like an exchange between countries, that I can't help but be taken aback. I wonder if it is even possible to have cultural exchange with something as big as a country as a unit. On the other hand, the cultural exchange I experienced was a private experience where towns were connected by chance, and people met and connected with each other. Two people wandering aimlessly through long periods of time intersect at a single point in such a way. I was able to confirm for myself the richness of what is born from this.International Youth Concert in Valletta 2018ãïŒMaltaïŒïŒInternational Youth Concert in Ise (2019)ãNever before have we experienced such emotion and excitement in our lives. ãIn 2018, after only 11 years of existence, we visited Malta, an island in the Mediterranean Sea, to participate in the International Youth Concert. Most of our members are schoolchildren, and for some it was not only their first time abroad, but also their first time on a plane. The members of the School of Performing Arts in Malta (SOPA), with whom we performed, helped us with homestays, and despite the unfamiliarity of being in a foreign land, we slept and ate together and received a lot of support.ãThe following year, in 2019, the SOPA choir came to Japan. In Japan, we have successfully organized many events such as a workshop for traditional culture and a consolation concert.ãWe would like to express our gratitude to the EU-Japan Fest Japan Committee for their support and cooperation. We hope that many more children will have the opportunity to experience many things abroad in the future.Related columnïŒLove Music, Love your life -Megumi Hiro
