ファンドレイジング（資金づくりのために募金協力をしていただく）イベントが行われました。ギネスシチューの試食券をご購入いただいてお味見を楽しんでいただきました。We held a fundraising event last Saturday.  This time the theme was stew tasting.  Some of our friends cooked Guinness stew and it served over a scoop of mashed potato. 私にとって初めてのギネスシチュー。シャリーンさんご夫妻が自慢の腕を振るって作ってくださいました。その食べ方も初体験。マッシュポテトにとろ～りギネスシチューをかけてくれました。息子たちがぺろりと平らげてしまいました。お味は日本でもなじみのビーフシチューでした。今回はギネス少な目だったそうです。本場アイルランドでは家庭によってはギネスをたくさん入れて真っ黒に近いシチューを楽しむそうです。ロブさんのおふくろの味も黒いギネスシチューだそう。 It was the first time in my life to taste Guinness stew.  Charlene and her husband cooked and served it.  It was also new for me to see them pouring it over a scoop of mashed potato in a bowl.  It didn’t taste so different from the beef stew we get in Japan.  However, in Ireland some families like to add quite a bit of Guinness to the stew so it gets very dark, actually almost black.  Rob’s mum has a recipe like this.    ロブさん以外のアイリッシュのほとんどが、今回のシチュー試食会で初めてギネス入りシチューを食べたらしいです。どうやら、本国アイルランドではギネスなしのビーフシチューの方が家庭料理としては一般的で、ギネス入りシチューはどちらかというと観光客向けかロブさんちだけみたいです！ It was interesting for me to learn that the Irish here, except Rob, had only had Guinness stew once or twice in their life.  They all say that the regular type of beef stew is more popular in Ireland as a family dish and that Guinness stew is usually targeted towards  the visitors, or maybe it’s only typical in Rob’s house!   そして、活動報告その７でご紹介したブラウンブレッド。ビーフシチューによく合う素朴な美味しさがクセになりそうです。 I also got to taste Irish brown bread. It was made by a local ALT girl called Saskia. She likes baking and decided to try making Irish brown bread especially for the event, great! It tasted very nice with Guinness stew.  ふくいパトリックスデー当日もギネスシチューの販売があります。ギネスビールの販売もあります。お楽しみに！ So, let’s all look forward to Charlene’s Guinness stew and Guinness beer too at Fukui Patrick’s Day Festival on March 26th.    

この催しの正式名が「ふくいパトリックスデー」に決まりました。今回改めて、「ふくい」と「福井」について考える機会になりました。 Recently we decided that the “Fukui” part of our event’s name will be written in Japanese Hiragana lettering.  We were wondering for a while which lettering we should use to best represent Fukui Patrick’s Day especially to the locals, Hiragana(ふくい) or Chinese characters(福井)?!?    本プロジェクトの主催が福井市とまちづくり福井株式会社に決まりました。私たちボランティア実行委員はふくいパトリックスデー実行委員会として変わらず活動を続けています。 Fukui Patrick’s Day will be sponsored by Fukui City and Machizukuri Fukui Co. Ltd who runs Happiring where we will hold the festival.  However, myself and the members of “Fukui Patrick’s Day Festival Committee” will continue as volunteers without any changes.    今年は本プロジェクト初回ということで、私たちも改めて問いながら気づきの連続です。その一つがこの催しの名称について。これまで「福井パトリックスデー」と表記してきていますが、今回改めて問い直した結果、発表したします！ 「ふくいパトリックスデー」 と表記させていただきます。 It is our first year to hold the Festival, so we still have various details decide.  One of them is the official title of this event.  In the end we decided to write “Fukui” in Japanese Hiragana lettering to make it clear that we are sponsored by Fukui City as opposed to Fukui Prefecture.  Fukui city prefers to use Hiragana Fukui in their activities so we thought this would automatically differentiate it from Fukui Prefecture.    この正式名を巡って、福井県と区別する意味で福井市は「ふくい」を使うことが多いんじゃないか、ということに改めてなりました。そこで、リサーチしてみると、確かに「ふくい春祭り（主催福井市）」「ふくい市民国際交流協会（公益社団法人。市民ボランティアが組織化され、福井市と連携している）」など、福井市の交流や活性化に関わる催しや関係者・団体には「ふくい」が好まれて使われるようです。でも、まちづくり福井株式会社は「福井」なんですよね。 「福井」？」「ふくい」？「フクイ」？”Fukui”？ 日本語ならではの4種類の表記法が確固とした理由で、または何となくのイメージで使い分けられているのではと予想し、もう少しリサーチしました。 In the process of deciding the official title of Fukui Patrick’s Day in Japanese, we researched  titles of organizations belonging to Fukui Prefecture and Fukui City and also private companies and private citizen groups.  After all this, the result is that there seem to be no clear reasons or rules about the lettering to be used.  Contrary to our expectations, Fukui Prefecture also uses the Hiragana form in many of their projects!!!  This issue may be an interesting topic for Fukui locals to discuss from now on. 福井県観光情報ホームページふくいドットコム ふくい健康の森 デザインセンターふくい ハーモニーホールふくい エンゼルランドふくい   いごごち満点！ふくい ふくいcityナビ ふくい工芸舎   ふくいのエコグリーンツーリズム タイムリーふくい   と、福井県、福井市、民間企業、市民団体などのいずれにかかわらず、「ふくい」っていい感じ！ってことで使われてるみたいですね。  Anyway, “Fukui” in Hiragana form is preferred in many cases.  So we are officially “ふくいパトリックスデー” from now on. それでは、改めまして 「ふくいパトリックスデー」をどうぞよろしくお願いいたします。  

福井ってそういえば「フェニックス（不死鳥）の街」。フェニックスの街が「グリーン（緑）をテーマによみがえれるか」という問いが私の中で芽生えるようになりました。そして、この問いこそが福井パトリックスデーという今回のプロジェクトの探究課題なんじゃないかと。 Do you know that the symbol of Fukui City is the “Phoenix”, a legendary bird that represents a revival from severe damage and destruction?  Since I became a core staff member of Fukui Patrick’s Day I began to wonder: “Can this city of the phoenix become a livelier place if given the opportunity to get together for a  “green” festival?  マンホールのふたにはフェニックス（不死鳥）がデザインされてます。 You can see the design of phoenix on maintenance covers on the roads.   いきなり、改まったご報告から入っちゃいましたね。改めまして、ganbarekazukunこと私ミユキです。この福井パトリックスデーというプロジェクトに引き込まれてこの数か月で自分のこと、家族や友人のこと、コミュニティーのこと、まちづくりのこと、などなど気づきをたくさんいただいたんだな、というご報告を一本書かせてください。 Dear CAPFIRE viewers, let me write about my own insights that I gained through my activities in preparing for Fukui Patrick’s Day Festival.    ですが、その前にまずは、ganbarekazukunについて。カズくんと呼んでいる、私の恩師の息子さんの映画プロジェクトがCAMPFIREでクラウドファンディングしたときに、私、初めてCAMPFIREにパトロン参加しました。面白い仕組みだと感心。リターンも嬉しかったけれど、何よりもカズくんの人生の大事な一歩を後押しさせてもらえた感じを味わえたのがよかった。そのサポーターとしての気持ちの充実感が私とCAMPFIREの関係の原点です。今回は、ganbaremiyukiって感じですね。 You may wonder why my CAMPFIRE user name is “ganbarekazukun.”  My first encounter with CAMPFIRE was Kazu’s filming project.  In order to show my support for Kazu who was my mentors’ son, I donated to his CAMPFIRE fund.  I remember I enjoyed the feeling of contributing to Kazu’s project through CAMFPRIE.  So now this same user name still reminds me of how I felt as a supporter.   そして、私ミユキ。メインは目下子育てですが、その合間にPTA活動と英語講師として教育活動を全力でやってるつもり。今回、福井パトリックスデー実行委員会からお誘いがあり、当初は「ロブさん、イーマちゃん、よしさん、ボランティアでえらいな～」と他人事にしか捉えられない自分でした。それから数か月、カズくんのパトロンだっただけが理由で、他のメンバーよりちょっと知ってただけの理由でこのCAMPFIREにプロジェクトを書く担当に立候補。そして、この活動報告を書くのが私の主な活動になりました。地元福井新聞社さんや月刊誌URALAさんに取材、掲載していただく運びになるにつれ、福井パトリックスデーを簡潔にしかも多くの人に分かってもらえる表現ってなんだろう？という問いが自分の中に立つようになりまいた。 Let me write a little about myself.  My daily routine consists of looking after my two sons.  I also work as an English teacher and am a member of two PTAs.  Being a core staff member of a genuine volunteer project such as Fukui Patrick’s Day is a totally new experience for me.  At the beginnng, I saw this project belonging to Rob, Emer and Yoshi.  Then the chance, to write about the project on CAMPFIRE came to me.  Amongst the staff, I was the most suitable person because of my previous experience with CAMPFIRE as Kazu’s patron.  Then writing activity reports like this became my main contribution to Fukui Patrick’s Day.  In order to express our ideas in a way that more people can understand, I began to question the theme and the aim of this project for Fukui locals.  Recently, I did press interviews with Fukui Shimbun Newspaper and URALA magazine, and they helped me reflect upon myself in relation to this project.   そして、冒頭の探究課題に行きついたんです。福井市という北陸の街、永平寺も東尋坊も恐竜博物館も福井駅からまた小一時間かけないと見られません。でも、福井市、とりわけ中心街は空襲や地震で二度の壊滅的被害にあいながらも復興をとげた街、フェニックスシティ、不死鳥の街なんです。そのフェニックスの街が「グリーン（緑）をテーマによみがえれるのか」というのが私の福井パトリックスデーへの期待を込めた探究課題になってきました。 As a result, I return to the question I raised at the beginning of this report.  Fukui City is actually about an hour away from the touristy sites that often represent Fukui Prefecture: Eiheiji Temple, Tojimbo Cliffs and the Katsuyama Dinosaurs Museum.  However, Fukui City is such a great city that actually did rise from the ashes twice and therefore so worthy of being known as the “Phoenix City.”  So I really hope that this phoenix city will become a livelier place thanks to Fukui Patrick’s Day which will give us locals a great chance to create improvisational communication just by wearing something green. ちょっと、かなり、まじめに書いちゃいましたが、みんな、なんか緑のもの見つけて、身に着けて、福井パトリックスデーに寄ってっての～。待てるでの～ Thank you very much for reading my thoughts.  Please come to Fukui on March 26th and enjoy the day with us in green!  

福井新聞社が取材してくださるということでロブさんに私も同行しました。 We had a press interview with Fukui Newspaper this week.   今回の取材場所はコワーキングスペースsankaku。福井パトリックスデーでパレードさせていただく予定のガレリア元町にあります。やった！前からいっぺん（一度）行ってみたかった空間にこうしてご縁をいただいたことがとても嬉しい、これも福井パトリックスデーのおかげです。 コワーキングスペースsankaku↓ http://www.kimamori.jp/#id189 The interview was at a communal work space called “Sankaku.”  This is one of the places that I had wanted to visit as I often read Fukui Newspaper’s articles about renovation near Fukui train station.  Fukui newspaper journalists ended up creating this co-working space on their own in order to provide a place for people who wanted to revitalise Fukui to work and share ideas.   福井新聞社の高島記者、私たちの話をじっくり聞いてくださるとっても話しやすい方でした。ロブさんが「言い出しっぺ」となり、昨年秋から準備が始まりボランティア実行委員で活動してきた経緯を聞いていただきました。 Mr. Takashima, who interviewed us today, is a great listener.  I could tell that we shared mutual interests and an understanding of the challenge in encouraging Fukui people to open up their views on life.  We agreed that it is good timing now for us people living in the “happiest prefecture in Japan” to appreciate and showcase our high quality of life.   ロブさんは、だれでもウェルカムなこのちょっとゆるい感じの交流が、実は福井の人には珍しいことなんじゃないか、と気がついた。だったら、僕たちが今回は提案するから、ぜひ、福井の人たちはじめ日本のみなさんにアイルランド流の「誰でも仲間」の精神を感じて欲しい、とこちらCAMPFIREの活動報告その３で私がインタビューしたときとズレもブレもなく今日のインタビューに答えていました。 Rob said he realized that the idea of Fukui Patrick’ Day, in which anyone can join whether they know someone involved in this project or not, might be a new experience for Fukui people.  In his six years in Fukui, he understands that most Fukui people are quite shy and tend to hesitate to open themselves up to the new people and new things.  This is why he really wanted to try Fukui Patrick’s Day Festival here and introduce the Irish spirit of inclusiveness.    福井の地元有志ということで、私にもインタビューが。ロブさんがよしさんに気持ちを打ち明け相談したことから始まった本プロジェクトに私も声をかけていただいて、これまで当たり前に見過ごしてきた福井の質の高さを再確認している自分が見えてきたことを聞いていただきました。 I was also interviewed as a Fukui local.  It was a good chance for me to reflect.  I could see my own opinions changing.  At the beginning, when I joined the project as a core volunteer staff member, I saw this project belonging to Rob, Emer and Yoshi.  However, thanks to writing in CAMPFIRE, I interviewed and talked a lot with them and was impressed with the idea of giving Fukui a new experience. INJ(Irish Network Japan：アイルランド日本ネットワーク)についてレポします。INJはアイルランドと日本の交流を促進することを主な目的として活動しているNPOです。福井でパトリックスパレードやります！と表明してから、INJからの様々なサポートに私たち福井のボランティアスタッフもますますがんばろう！っていうパワーをいただいています。   Since Fukui Patrick’s Day Festival was announced, INJ: Irish Network Japan has given us great support.  According to the INJ website; “The INJ is a non-profit organization staffed by a group of Irish and Japanese volunteers. Its main goal is to promote Irish culture in Japan and promote cultural exchange between Ireland and Japan through regularly held events.”     INJのＨＰに福井パトリックスデーが紹介されています。 東京や横浜に肩を並べて紹介されて嬉しいですね。 For the first time Fukui Patrick’s Day is scheduled as one of the Patrick’s Parades in Japan on the INJ website.  It makes me happy to see Fukui in this community. Irish Network Japan   先日よりINJから今回の催しを盛り上げるグッズが届き始めました。 なんと、アイルランド国旗が500本届きました！ アイルランド現地ではパレードを見守る沿道の人たちにお渡ししているようです。 We received 500 Irish flags from INJ.  In Ireland and around the world, people watching parades along the street wave these flags. 北陸初の福井パトリックスデーに500本！さて、どう活用させていただきましょうか。ボランティア実行委員会で、今回は、ハピリンに顔を出してくださった方々にもれなくお渡ししようということになりました。 This time in Fukui anybody who turns up at Happiring will be given a flag.   お次は横断幕。これを掲げてパレードしてね、っていうことですね。こういうグッズが準備していただけるとはINJの本気度の高さを感じます。 INJ also sent us this banner.  We can see that INJ is a great organization with strong spirit to promote international exchange between Ireland and Japan.   そして、INJオリジナルジャンパー。まだまだ寒い春先3月26日に暖かい一着になりそうですね。 This jacket arrived.  Spring in Fukui can be a bit chilly so we will probably need them!    INJの心強いサポートを感じて、こちらCAMPFIREで福井パトリックスデーを応援くださる皆さまからパワーいただいて、北陸初のこの催しの成功に向かって毎週のボランティア実行委員会がんばってるでのぉ～。 Thanks to INJ’ s support and those who donate to this CAMPFIRE project, us volunteers feel well supported and will continue our efforts to bring success to the first ever Fukui Patrick’s Day Festival.
